Thread: Any interest in Odom?

    Default Any interest in Odom?

Conventional wisdom is LA will be making some changes. I personally believe they'd be better off separating Gasol and Bynum by moving one of the two to another team, but I think they're more likely to part ways with Artest (if possible) and Odom. Odom has one more guaranteed year and put up 14/9 this past season.

He had 14/9 in a Lakers uniform. I think that number drops if he plays for the Pacers soooo no I dont' want to have anything to do with him.

He's too old to be a part of our core, would likely just be eating up our cap for 1 season. Pass.

Why should the numbers drop? If anything, he'd have a bigger role and wouldn't play next to two double digit rebounders.

    That said, two things.
First, I like Odom, but he's on the old side and Hibbert doesn't complement him well (man we should have an abbreviation for this, since Hibbert doesn't complement most bigs).
Second, who would the Lakers want? Not picks, scrubs and cap space for sure. Either point guard, or a 3. Not sure they'd want DC - depends on next coach's system. Granger? Either way, not worth it imo.

The guy plays uninspired a lot of times on a championship caliber team. What would he do here in INDY? JMO.

His numbers were better on those bad Lakers teams though. Well except maybe this year where he played possibly best basketball of his career.

Having a young team is fine and exciting, but there have to be veterans to have a presence. Maybe no one thinks Odom is capable of bringing any veteran savvy and leadership. I have a bit of a question on that myself.

However, young players admire a dude with 3 rings and I think having that kind of admiration brings out something extra from a vet.

Not too sure what we'd get by bringing in Mr Khloe. Meaning, how would his demeanor be coming from a championship environment to a team making toddler steps in the playoffs.

I think a player who has matured over the years as he has would be the same player he is now.

I think his patience would have to improve here however. Odom is a good fit in our front court IMO. He is purely a PF though and I don't know that that would help our roster. He has the talent and basketball smarts to help our younger guys improve. He would have a major impact on our team though. I think he helps our locker room and I think his winning experience would be valuable. I think Odom would be a good use of cap space if we intend to not only go after a player this year, but next summer as well. I think that one year of Odom would not hurt us as a team. I don't know that he would be our answer to using our cap space however. Odom has the skills and experience to help our team immediately, though.

Do I want Lamar Odom on the Pacers next year? Yes.

Am I willing to give up anything of value to get him? No.

Do I think he makes us a 2nd round playoff team? No.

I would like Lamar on this team. He's a good player and knows what a winning environment is like. We need to build that winning culture here in Indiana and a guy like Odom can certainly help with that.

Now I don't know what I would be comfortable in giving up to get him.

I have read that Odom won't go anywhere that doesn't have beaches so Indy is out.

If anything, I would expect the numbers to go up as he would be a more prominent figure on this team.

It all depends on what they want in return.

I'd be a little more interested if he could play some small-ball center, but I don't think he's played much 5 in his career.

I don't think there's anyone realistically available that makes us a favorite to get to round 2. A combo of players for all cap space - sure. But one free agent / trade target that gets us to that 50+ win range - i don't see it.

Granted, we don't know how some teams will look next spring.

From a pure basketball standpoint he would be great to have. I just don't think we can trade for him without giving up something significant, and I am not sure he(moreso his wife) would like the Indy lifestyle.

I have zero interest in Odom. I think he will be best on a deep team like Dallas who have done a great job of filling out their team with veterans like Peja.

He's used to Miami and LA.
I wonder if Odom and his wife would see it that way.

no. After watching him this season it seemed like he cried to Phil Jackson more and more. Every time out, Odom looks like he is mad about something and is always up in Phil's face.
