Thread: JaJuan Johnson anybody?

    Default JaJuan Johnson anybody?

I haven't followed his career like possibily some of you have but I like this kid's upside. I know I've been saying this for years but I expect him to get stronger, especially once he gets to the league. He's a lean, athletic 6-10 with a solid midrange game, he can rebound, block shots and more importantly run the floor. I'm not sure about taking him 15th but trading back into the draft to acquire him appeals to me. Then again, if players that we are shooting for are off the board by 15 it wouldn't bother me if we took him 15th.

    15 overall No Way.

Johnson is getting knocked for being a tweener 4 / 5 with no real postion in the NBA. I am not going to knock the kids game, he did improve in college. I would love if he fell to the Pacers in the second round but I don't see that happening either.

He should get drafted anywhere from 24-34 in this draft.

PS He has been "gaining muscle" since his days @ Franklin Central. I really think he could benefit from a professional weight/nutrition program in the NBA.

He was definitely a lot bigger last year here. Clearly still has a ways to go though.

I am a big fan of trading back to get him. Maybe Kahns 20th pick overall. I think he would be pretty good also with Collison and the pnp.

He could be like a Tyson Chandler type player. I can see Collison throwing him lobs for dunks all game long.

Wow, I had not realized he had improved that much yearly. I would love to have him here, as you could probably guess, but I am sure he will never be a great starter. Decent starter/good bench player most likely if he keeps working.

I'd strongly be in favor of trading Rush to Minnesota for #20 and drafting JaJuan there.

I would love to see JaJuan on the Pacers. He has some great post moves, but he has a very solid mid range jumper. He started to shoot threes this year, but was around 30%.

Still needs to get stronger, but I think he can still be productive even the first year in the league.

People are suggesting he will be drafted in the 2nd round. I think the kid will be a really solid player. A 4-5 tweener is really what we need coming off the bench anyway. Besides, who in this draft is going to be available at 15 that has better upside than him?
Dont most of these draft picks fail because of lack of heart and work ethic? This is clearly not the case with JJ. He will get better every year and is a team player. I want him!

I was surprised a lot of drafts have him going really late 1st or early 2nd.

Obviously they haven't watched him like most of us have.

He'll be one of those players that slowly climbs up teams' draft boards as the workouts commence. I wouldn't be at all surprised to see him go top 25, maybe even late teens.

I agree...he'll climb his way up boards. I could see Houston even taking him 14th.

I've been calling Johnson as a top-20 pick for a while now. There's no way a PF with his length, skills and athleticism slips to the second round in such a weak draft.

Really depends on what else is available to us, but I wouldn't really balk at that pick if nothing considerably better was available. I'm a firm believer that whoever we get at #15 is going to be a "potential" pick, and as far as potential goes JJ has a ton of it and plays a position that we're not deep at.

I was not sure at first, given that I am Boiler I figured I would over-value him. Now, I want him more than a lot of other people.

he's is going to get pushed around at the five, and probably at the four too...his handles aren't good enough to play three, though he could be a (very) long term project there. his athleticism is better than what we see at Purdue usually, but not outstanding at the NBA level, i don't think...great weakside shotblocker (so he will be able to intimidate all the guys blowing by jimmer), and should be able to get his shot off in the post (if he can get any kind of position, which is a question mark)...attitude / work ethic top notch by all accounts...

in summary, i would say too high at 15, acceptable at any point in the 2nd round.
