There seems to be some problems with Russell Westrbook in OKC. Maybe it has been blown way out of proportion. Lets say it hasn't though. Sam Smith, take it for what it's worth, suggested that the Hornets and Thunder work out a deal where Chris Paul and Russell Westbrook swap jerseys. Which got me thinking about a possible trade with the Pacers and OKC.
- Russell Westbrook
- Thabo Sefolosha
- Danny Granger
- Darren Collison
Why for Pacers?
First let me say that a strong part of me wants to see them build on what they have here. However Westbrook, IMO, would make this team ALOT better. The point guard position is so important in the NBA today and Westbrook is one of the best ones.
Plus the Pacers seem open to trading Danny. I see the logic behind that. One thing that concerns me is Danny is in his prime while the other players on the team are a couple years away from that. Trading Danny for youth makes sense from that standpoint. The problem is you don't want to knock yourself out of the playoffs by trading your best player but I think the Pacers would be much improved with this trade.
Getting Sefolosha would be excellent too. Awesome defensive player.
Westbrook might seem like a risky headcase to take on but I think i'd be willing to take the chance on him.
Why for Thunder?
If they do feel the need to trade Westbrook wouldn't this be good value? Danny Granger is an all-star level player and Collison is a decent point guard who will only get better. The Pacers could sweeten the pot by throwing in Brandon Rush or the 15th pick too.
They probably wouldn't want to give up Sefolosha. I think they are high on him. However getting Danny Granger and having Durant and James Harden leaves little room for Sefolosha. Some will point out that neither Danny or Durant are natural 2 guards. However I have a feeling that not too many coaches would complain about having to start Danny and Kevin Durant together. I think they would be fine.
I think a deal similar to this might make sense for both teams. Maybe i'm crazy though and Westbrook is worth way more than Danny/Darren. Just a thought I had after reading Sam Smith's article.
I remember a lot of people here wanting Westbrook with our first rounder a couple of years ago. Shame we didn't end up getting him, but I doubt that, even with all of this drama, they'd trade him for such a mediocre package. From what I've heard, OKC would probably explore trading him for Chris Paul, which would give them a devastating 1-2 punch.
Danny can't really play the 2 or 4 effectively, and neither can Durant, so they wouldn't be able to play together for 35+MPG. If there was anyone on OKC to get that is doable I'd want Cole Aldrich. I think his potential as an elite defensive center is extremely high. And with OKC already having Ibaka/Perkins/Collison, I think he's expendable for them. If we could trade Roy for a decent starting 2 or 4, I'd definitely pull the trigger on a trade for Aldrich.
I was just thinking about this. IMO thunder would be better off with a pass first pg instead of Westbrook, and after reading that westbrook believes he's better than Durant (http://aol.sportingnews.com/nba/feed...er-than-durant), I'm beginning to wonder if OKC would be listening to trades involving Westbrook. I know this may be a bit lopsided, but it works on the trade machine, and I also view DC more highly than most on this board. Anyway,
DC + Rush/D Jones + 1st for Westbrook. Maybe another first from our side?
Rush can replace Safalosha as a defensive stopper/3 point specialist; D Jones can also replace Safalosha as an energy guy and veteran leadership. Just thinking..

I think people here are overvaluing DC and severely undervaluing Westbrook. I doubt they move him at all, but if they do it will be for an elite player that can help Durant win tomorrow, not two seasons from now.
I think Rondo for Westbrook makes a lot of sense for OKC.
3 way deal with Rondo going to OKC, Westbrook + filler to Indiana, Granger + Collison to Celtics? For the Celtics, acquiring Granger would allow them to trade Ray Allen for something else they can use.
