    Default The Mystical Power Forward

O.K. guys we have been debating (to death) all of our options at SG and SF.

But my question is who is this mystical power forward we are going to go after this off-season so we can move Tyler back to the bench.

I have heard very few names. Nene, West, Landry. I really don't know if any of them are going to give us a huge upgrade over Tyler.

Isn't Nene more of a center then a PF. Can he hit the mid range jumper like Tyler.

I really don't even know who we are focusing on.

So my question to all of you instead of debating Rudy Gay to death.

Who can we get via trade or free agency that will be able to fill the our need to upgrade the PF position?

I tend to wonder if there just aren't many options out there that is why we keep talking about wings non-stop.

Or maybe I forgot the first rule of fight club don't ever talk about the fight club....

I would love to get any of those guys. But are they realistic or are you simply wishing? I would think AV would be off limits now that the Cavs will get 2 of the top 4 picks. Nene is expensive and seems like a real long shot. Scola, I would like to hear more about him.

Any of those three would be better than David West or Josh Smith. West is older and could be damaged goods. Smith's game is more suited for the "3" so he is not what this team needs at all. We need to get bigger and stronger, not just simply more athletic.

He would drive me crazy. At least with Troy, he played to his strengths. Josh minimizes his impact by shooting all those jumpers.

The best two options for bigs (via free agency) are Nene and Marc Gasol. They are light years ahead of any available player. Nene is a C who can play PF and Gasol is a Center and nothing else. It would take a max or near max offer to get either guy. The upside is that if we get one of those two guys, they become at worst the 2nd best player on the roster as soon as they sign.

As for PF's, there are a few mediocre options in free agency. If we're going to bring in a major upgrade at PF, we're going to have to make a trade to do it.

You can never tell who is going to be available via trade. I would guess that Utah will not keep both Millsap and Jefferson for next season. Either one of those guys would be a fantastic grab.

A PF who would fit nicely into our starting lineup but would probably be too expensive and not good enough to make us a 2nd round team would be Kirilenko.

if we were able to get Varejao do u think he would come off the bench or start? whenever i watched cleveland he was like the perfect guy to come off the bench.

I wonder how many people are thinking that the PF position will be upgraded with a 4-5 that has slid under the radar somwhere? I wouldnt be surprised if we end up with a guy who is not all that expensive because he is just starting to come around. Signing a PF to big bucks is really risky when offense is generally regarded as the last important part of their game.
I want to see an athletic banger. Scoring is secondary.

Cleveland is in rebuilding mode and is possible that they want another pick and young player for Varejao, Nene is a free agent so we have a shot and Scola, I don't know but is possible that they would trade him if a good package is offered.

He would need to start with Roy.

He would probably come off the bench because he is a 4-5 combo. So he could sub for either Tyler or Roy! IMO - he is the perfect fit for what we need! Reminds me a little of Noah.

Nene can play PF. I would like to go after him if it is possible. I think a Nene/Hibbert frontcourt would be very powerful.

I'm not really a big Varejao fan, but can you imagine how INCREDIBLY frustrating it would be for other teams to have to play against Varejao and Tyler? They are both that type of player that gets under the opposition's skin by being in the right place at the right time.

I want Nene. He's a long shot and the price his high, but he'd be solid at the 4. He brings a lot of the size and true big man presense we've been lacking.

5 years/75M is what I've had in mind. That's where the risk of spending your available cap space happens. We still have more space, but a trade would probably be more suitable if we want to bring in another large contract.

    I like Varejao too.

Either Brazilian big man is good with me. Preferably Nene.

I watched that 2009 draft again, and Jay Bilas said that about Hansbrough when we drafted him.

What I'm mostly hoping for is that this off season we can Improve our depth in the front court. Spend the majority of our cap next year.

    Backup possibilities:

Stanko may be coming over right?... there's a possible back up maybe

What about Ian Mahinmi? A bench/ D-league player on the Mavericks pine that has great size and could be gottin cheap.

Draft Biyombo at 15 if he is there

I really hope we can keep McRoberts around.... I don't think he has reached his potential.

    Starting PF:

I like David West.. always liked his game and has a great attitude.

    Roll with Tyler

I think I would make a run at DeAndre Jordan. He is young, athletic defensive big man.

I know he is a RFA but if we didn't get him I would enjoy running his price up for the Clippers.

I know I'm in the big minority but I would hate to have Varejao here. I lived in Cleveland the past 4 years and saw more than enough of his butter fingers and tripping over his own feet to not want him.
