Dwyane Wade Miami Beach fantasy camp carries $12,500 tab
The first Dwyane Wade Fantasy Basketball Camp has been scheduled for Aug. 18-21 at the Fontainebleau Hotel in Miami Beach.
While the cost is steep, it falls in line with the $15,000 charged for the now-discontinued Michael Jordan Senior Flight School, a fantasy camp previously held in Las Vegas for participants of similar ages.
Details are available at the camp's website, dwyanewadefantasycamp.com.
Wade also will continue with his more reasonably priced youth camps, camps that take into consideration financial needs of such participants.
An NBA lockout could impact some of Wade's plans, with Miami Heat coach Erik Spoelstra and Heat assistant coach David Fizdale listed among guest coaches for Wade's fantasy camp.
Also listed as coaches on the camp website are Wade's former Marquette coach Tom Crean, current Marquette coach Buzz Williams, and Mike Brown, LeBron James' former coach with the Cleveland Cavaliers.
An NBA lockout likely would bar members of NBA team staffs from working with current players under contract.
The competition and drills are scheduled for basketball courts that will be built in the hotel's ballroom.
Those who register by Sunday receive a $1,000 discount, according to the camp's website.
Also noted on the website: The coaching staff will be responsible for creating the teams. The teams will be selected based on participants' performance during tryouts on August 18th. However, the website says, "campers may bring their own team and they will play together at the camp. They must bring a minimum of eight campers and a maximum of 10 campers."
