He was unjustly left off of the rookie/sophomore team, would've been a huge tragedy if he didn't get his due as a second team All-Rookie.

    Congrats to PG

    For reference:

    http://www.nba.com/2011/news/05/11/a...s=iref:nbahpt2

T-Mobile NBA Rookie of the Year Blake Griffin of the Los Angeles Clippers and the Washington Wizards' John Wall, the overall No. 1 selection in the 2010 NBA Draft, headline the 2010-11 T-Mobile NBA All-Rookie First Team, the NBA announced today. Griffin was the lone unanimous selection.

Joining Griffin (58 points) and Wall (57 points) on the T-Mobile NBA All-Rookie First Team are New York's Landry Fields (56 points), Sacramento's DeMarcus Cousins (54 points), and San Antonio's Gary Neal (44).

The T-Mobile NBA All-Rookie Second Team consists of Detroit's Greg Monroe (42 points), Minnesota's Wesley Johnson (26 points), the Clippers' Eric Bledsoe (19 points), Utah's Derrick Favors (18 points), and Indiana's Paul George (14 points).

Other players receiving votes, with point totals (first place votes in parentheses): Ed Davis, Toronto, 10 (1); Evan Turner, Philadelphia, 12; Jordan Crawford, Washington, 12; Gordon Hayward, Utah, 7; Omer Asik, Chicago, 6 (1); Patrick Patterson, Houston, 5; Al-Farouq Aminu, Los Angeles Clippers, 3; Tiago Splitter, San Antonio, 3; Trevor Booker, Washington, 1; Christian Eyenga, Cleveland, 1; Ekpe Udoh, Golden State, 1.

Landry Fields over George is a travesty. Didn't watch Neal to much.

Is this where I mention that, as the #10 pick in the draft, being voted as the #10 rookie is to be expected?

Oh, well, I forgot about Griffin, so he leap-frogged Hayward. Yay!

George finished ahead of a lot of guys that were bandied about on these forums leading up to the draft...

    Ed Davis
    Gordon Hayward
    Patrick Patterson
    Al-Farouq Aminu
    Ekpe Udoh

Which leads me to think to myself ---

"Do we even know what the hell we're talking about?"

Congrats to Paul, it was well deserved. When I think of the future of the Pacers, I can't help but think of Paul George leading this team to many victories.

Gary Neal and Landry both had better years, while PG collected lots of DNPs under O'Brien.

How often do we see a rookie with 20+ DNPs on All-rookie teams anyway? An indication of how much he's valued around the league for his play under Vogel.

Vogel all year long, PG would be on the 1st team.

Then he'll have to decide on if he wants to play in both the all-star game and the rookie/sophomore game.

It's a weak crop for rookie wings, and it seemed that coaches voted to award production over potential in selecting Fields and Neal, who are likely to remain role players in the future.

Interestingly, on a per minute basis, Paulie G's production is on par with Fields and Neal, despite his DNP-CDs. And way above other rookie wings like Turner or Johnson. Have a look:

    http://www.basketball-reference.com/...neev01&y6=2011

In terms of PER, Fields posted 13.5, Neal 13.1, and PG 13.0

In terms of WS/48, Fields posted a value of 0.100, Neal 0.099, and PG 0.091

By both measures, there's a large separation between the trio of Fields, Neal, PG and the rest of the field.

Without JOB George would probably been the top 2nd team vote getter if not 1st team.

They nearly always award production over potential.
Joe Smith over Kevin Garnett, Shane Battier over Joe Johnson, Randy Foye over Rajon Rondo, and so on. Even Kobe didn't make the 1st team.
And T-Mac didn't make any rookie team with very similar year as PG.
Age and potential doesn't matter much in this.

Pacers who've made an NBA All-Rookie Team (there was no 2nd Team prior to 1988-89):

    1982-83: Clark Kellogg, All-Rookie 1st Team
    1983-84: Steve Stipanovich, All-Rookie 1st Team
1986-87: Chuck Person, All-Rookie 1st Team (Rookie of the Year)
    1988-89: Rik Smits, All-Rookie 1st Team
    2001-02: Jamaal Tinsley, All-Rookie 2nd Team
    2005-06: Danny Granger, All-Rookie 2nd Team
    2010-11: Paul George, All-Rookie 2nd Team

Notable All-Rookie 2nd Teamers over the past decade:

    Marcus Thornton
    Eric Gordon
    Kevin Love
    Marc Gasol
    Carl Landry
    Rajon Rondo
    Paul Millsap
    Raymond Felton
    Danny Granger
    Al Jefferson
    Josh Smith
    Jameer Nelson
    Carlos Boozer
    Manu Ginobili
    Josh Howard
    Joe Johnson
    Richard Jefferson
    Hedo Turkoglu

By my count, about one-third go on to be good-to-great NBA players.

Disagree. For the entire season Landry had a better year. And Neal, over the entire year, was more important than George.

Now if PG had played as much and well as he did in his last month, in two more months...he would have been 1st.

No, it's not. Fields came out of the gate strong and had an excellent rookie year. Landry Fields WAS the steal of the draft at the #38 pick!

hmm must have been slim pickins. i recognize his potential but he had a very pedestrian rookie season.
