Default When even losing is winning

Just wrote a new article for thesportsjury.com about the Pacers. Direct link is
    http://thesportsjury.com/20110501150...ing-is-winning

Just a little article inspired by a feisty trip to the playoffs this year. Somewhat nostalgic piece about the Pacers, Reggie Miller, their playoff runs, and what it means to be a fan of a team who isn't always on top of the heap year after year.

Give it a read and discuss/give feedback. I would certainly appreciate it.

So you're saying that sometimes when you lose, you really win? And sometimes when you win, you really lose, and sometimes when you win or lose, you actually tie, and sometimes when you tie, you actually win or lose?

I seem to recall somebody saying that "A tie is like kissing your sister."

If that is the case, I would have to say that a tie is actually always a loss, though in hockey they used to almost treat a tie as a win.

I always knew there was something inherently unnatural, and wrong, about hockey...

I read it and it was good. I could certainly relate. We're the same age too but I started following the Pacers at the ripe age of 7 back in 1984 when they drafted Clark Kellogg. Having a vested interest in a team does make the times when they win more enjoyable.

I became a Colts fan in 1987 when they got Eric Dickerson. When they finally won the 2006 championship I could smile when I said, "I've been a fan since '87 and I can remember the 1-15 season way before we got Peyton Manning."

Larry is not coming back, he didn't have a meeting with Orlando for not reason, yeah he is coming back to the NBA but not to the Pacers, the notion that he is a taking a year off and then come back is absurd.

Well written, I started as a fan in the 60's following Brown, Daniels, Lewis, Keller and McGinnis. I think the team is on the rise and the future is bright.

    Fantastic avatar.

Yeah, I didn't really start following any sports until I was a teenager. Heck, I can only vaguely remember teammates like Chuck Person and Vern Fleming.

In the end regardless of the sport and the team there will always be bandwagon fans who jump on, but I think after a championship is won (or lost) it will stick with a person who has been a die-hard longer, where-as the bandwagon fans take their gear to the goodwill and wait for the next bandwagon to come by. Hell, a lot of them aren't really even sports fans, they just get swept up in the emotion.
