At the start of the playoffs, most thought Pau was the best PF in the NBA (ridiculous considering that Dirk has been that title holder for like half a decade now...), anyway his horrible playoffs really hurt him in my eyes.
Not necessarily ridiculous, I think Granger would make a fantastic sidekick for Kobe. I actually hate it from our perspective though. Pau has already proven not to be a first banana, and putting him next to Roy gives us a Charmin soft frontcourt.
As soon as the Lakers series was over and heard of Pau Gasol likely traded (or the Lakers blowing up their team) I thought that the Pacers should make a play for him.
Then I look at his salary. He is owed nearly 20 million a year for the next 3 seasons. I say no thanks.
Did you know that Bynum makes $15M+? I was cracking up, they are paying $15M for 60% of the season, 10-15 points and 6-10 rebounds...
And great point whoever noted that Gasol/Hibbert is incredibly soft. We would get ABUSED inside.
I'd rather have Marc any day of the week.
Oh, and as much as I can't stand him, can't be terribly hard on Pau when he has to play alongside a volume scorer (Kobe) and a terrible point guard (Fisher). Tough to reach your potential when one member of the backcourt is bombing shots at a 20-30/game pace, and the other is an awful defender, sub par shooter and poor distributer.
When I first heard all the rumors about the Lakers should blow things up, I thought to myself this team could use Pau Gasol (and I hate the guy), but I agree with the post above he'll only be moved to a team like the Magic for Howard.
Though he didn't play up to his capabilities, the Lakers would only move him in a big deal for a superstar, and still may not.
I think they'll try moving Bynum, Odom and of course Artest first.
