It was pretty clear the last few days of the season that Memphis wanted the Spurs in round 1, and now they've got them. Losing a player as talented as Rudy Gay would be a death blow to most team, but the Grizzlies have been even better in his absence. The return of Shane Battier has given the Grizz the veteran leadership they lacked, and Zach Randolph and Marc Gasol have become the NBA's best 1-2 frontcourt combo.
The Spurs held the NBA's best record until the final day, and have been on cruise control for weeks. But a late injury to Manu Ginobili could leave them vulnerable, as could their poor interior defense against two frontcourt scorers. Still, the Grizzlies as a franchise have never won a single playoff game since joining the NBA for the 95-96 season, and it's hard to see them taking out the Spurs in this series.
