    Default O.J. Mayo? No thanks.

Counting last night, I've watched Memphis play probably three or four times this season. Mayo strikes me as a disinterested underachiever who goes half speed most of the time he's on the court. I don't see how his addition could have been a net gain to the Pacers' roster. Anyone who was disappointed in that trade falling through just isn't paying attention.

    Do not say that.

Yesterday the two best plays of the game in Memphis, was the OJ Mayo

OJ Mayo is a great player, and was aware of Crawford a big boost for our team

I actually think OJ Mayo played pretty well last night.

...but he is not a great player.

Do you have any SG better in our team?

    Yeah, Paul George.

Being better than the SGs on our team certainly wouldn't make you "great" either. It would make you above average.

I thought that drive and reverse dunk was very impressive. He also hit a big 3 pointer late in game 3, IIRC.

OJ is an upgrade over Dunleavy at the very least and he's only in his 3rd season. He still has potential although I don't think he has the superstar potential everyone thought he had in High School and college.

I wanted OJ and was disappointed that the Pacers didn't get him but hindsight is 20/20. I'm now glad the trade didn't happen because the Pacers needed McRoberts more than they needed OJ Mayo. Foster missed a ton of games after the trade deadline and McRoberts gave the Pacers some important production.

Larry is not coming back, he didn't have a meeting with Orlando for not reason, yeah he is coming back to the NBA but not to the Pacers, the notion that he is a taking a year off and then come back is absurd.

Probably not the smartest thing to post on a guy you have only seen 3 times this season

I think he just needs a new place to play. He put up borderline all star numbers his rookie year and imo still have the potential. He's not athletic enough to be a superstar, but I think he could be a very good scorer with a new team. He's also a decent passer. I'm not a huge fan of his defense, but I think he can hold his own and we already have a ton of great wing defenders.

I think Memphis will part with him for nothing and the PAcer's are one of the teams that can absorb his salary. I really hope they go after him if it costs little to nothing. He could be a big gain for how cheap he can be had.

He seems like a really bad fit for this organization in my opinion.

If as many of you think we go after him again after the season, I hope I'm wrong.

I've seen him play 3-4 times this season, including once in person, watched him at least that many times the previous couple years and a lot in college. Is that better?

Mayo is the poster child for the reasons people hate the NBA. Minus the occasional burst and above-the-rim move, he's incredibly average. His movement without the ball is horrible. And he's soft, mentally and most especially physically. The least I expect from a guy with that type of elite athleticism are some nice pipes. What's his trainer got him curling, bags of Doritos?

He may be an upgrade athletically, but as far as basketball IQ, passing abilities, moving without the ball and those sort of things, I'm not so sure.

    This, more than anything else.

    Also -

I've watched some of the Memphis playoff games, and the thing that strikes me about Mayo is the very thing we don't like for our players to do. He seems to have a tendency to hang out at the three point line and not get involved unless he has the ball. Maybe it is what they want him to do, but I doubt it. Remember how many times many of us have gotten on Granger's case for the same thing?

Almost forgot to add - the guy is 14-42 from the field in this playoff series. 14 of 42! Is that supposed to be an upgrade over our current guards?

IF you had to chose between OJ Mayo, Jason Richardson or Jamal Crawford who would you choose?

Honestly I am torn between all 3. I like OJ short contract but hate the reports of his attitude problems. Jamal Crawford and Richardson are older and would cost a lot more which makes me hesitate signing them to a 4 year deal.

Of the 3 I think Richardson has the best defense and is more reliable overall.

I don't think we ever had the opportunity to get him did we? I thought he went pretty high in the draft a couple years ago.

Let him run free with the second unit. Ala Jamaal Crawford.

    We did

We had a trade agreed to at the deadline that would have sent McBob to Memphis and Mayo to the Pacers

It's 3 more times than what graphic-er has seen Dwight Howard play this year, at least...

Don't want to derail this thread, but didn't want to make a new one. Does anyone think we have a realistic shot at trading for Manu if SA loses and decides to blow it up? They would probably want Paul, but I would make a package around Tyler and Roy if I had to.

This would effectively solve our closer problem, bring in a leader, and give us a very dangerous wing rotation. Unfortunately, we would have to replace Roy. Just a thought.

Probably not but honestly he is a little too old, expensive and injured for my liking

Mayo needs a change of scenery. Kind of reminds me of how Beasley did in the beginning of the season when he was traded.
"So, which one of you guys is going to come in second?" - Larry Bird before the 3 point contest. He won.

Mayo is definetely better than what we can get in the first round of this year's draft anyway, and that is all its most likely going to take to get him this off-season. I agree that I think he is a different player in a different environment. He comes here and would be a great 6th man, maybe starting SG. He has a ton of potential still too and don't forget he can match up with bigger point guards on defense

Mayo's defense this series has been surprisingly good. This is a good sign, but also a bad sign. Where was his defense all year long? Adjusting to his role of pouting from the bench?

I just don't really care for Mayo. I think his talent is there, but I doubt his willingness to become a great player. I'd trade Lance Stephenson for him though.

I'd rather trade for Sam Young from Memphis.
