    Default D. Jones

I believe his contract isn't up until after next season, but what are your thoughts on resigning him? I've always loved him since his work on CP3 in the playoffs a few years ago and I think he is showing us why he is in the NBA. Seeing as how the road to the Finals might go through Chicago for the next few years, do we resign him when the time comes barring a major injury?

I'd like to keep him on a reasonable contract. He's a good defensive player, gives us a different look to throw at rose, and seems to be a great teammate and veteran precense, even when he isn't getting minutes.

I thought that he was on a very reasonable contract as far as per/year was concerned. Wasn't his contract bug a boo the length of his deal?

I like Dahntay too don't get me wrong but what our 4th wing/10th man decides to do in 2 seasons time is pretty low on my list of worries.

In all honesty his skillset is fairly easy to replace.

He's still got more time on his current deal. Once that is up, we could do worse than resigning him.

But I'd hope we could do better.

If it came down to it, I'd rather keep him than Rush.

Dahntay was signed for 4 years, and this is only the 2nd year of the 4 year contract. No need to even think about re-signing Dahntay while he has 2 more years on his contract. Re-visit this thought in 2013.

If I was a betting person, I'd bet Dahntay will still be a Pacer when Rush has exited Conseco for good.

Completely agree. The defensive intensity more than compensates for his lack of offensive game. However, I would like for him to take away any jumpshots from his toolbox. The man cannot shoot. He can continue to drive it to the basket though because he will draw the foul.

I think his performance in the playoffs this year can once and for all put to bed the arguments around his contract size, whether or not it was a bad deal, etc etc.

2.7m next year, and a player option for 2.9m in 2012-2013.

In comparison, Rush's qualifying offer in 2012-2013 is 4 mil.

Inferno has without question performed just as he was expected to in the playoffs and the latter half of this season. If anything, he has exceeded general expectations.

Is he "amazingly good" value? Probably not. Is he fair to decent value? Of course! A really nice side benefit, is that the guy is a really good locker room presence it appears, and he lends a nice amount of swagger to the team during games.

A very complementary team presence, given his cost, IMO.

Hollinger was way off the mark on this one.

Eh. A streaky shooter is different than someone who can't shoot.

He came up big in game 3 offensively IMO... with some nice jumpshots.

His overall offensive contributions are net average:

How much better do you expect your 4th or 5th wing to be?

Thanks for posting his numbers. I didn't realize they were quite that high. I just want to continue to see him in the players face with nonstop defense!

I think Coach Vogel summed up DJ's value quite nicely. He's a guy who "gets under your chin" on defense. His physicality and George's length might be the most effective 1-2 counter to Rose in the league.

I think DJ has two areas to work on:

    1) Getting caught in ticky tacky defensive fouls early in the shot clock
    2) Looking for his own shot perhaps a little too much. On this one, I'd say he's actually looking a little better in this regard during the playoff series (in our N of 2 )

Keep im. He has shown a nice ability to be thrown into a close game and to get under the other teams skin and disrupt their tempo. If he starts making dumb choices and turnovers put him back on the pine till you need him again.

I heard Wells on The Dakich Show today say there is a possibility the FO will try and get rid of Jones because of his "Alpha Male" attitude? Anyone else hear this?

Yup, and that he influenced the younger players which wasn't always good. He was the guy in the locker room that always had something to say and was always right, and frustrated Bird (according to Wells.) I was kinda surprised.

It shocked me very much as well. I like DJ and think he is underestimated as a player on this roster. Defense wins and his defensive contributions outweigh his offensive streakiness.

That's a really new insight into Dahntay! Where was this info when Bird went after him as a FA? Another failing in checking out players b4 acquiring them?

I have nothing concrete to back this with, but it doesn't surprise me. Just a vibe I get from him. But I think it's one of those things that works out for him, and against him. In a way, it is both the best and worst thing about him.

Denver didn't have as young a team as this, and also had stronger personalities to keep him in check. So maybe it didn't show in Denver like it did here.

I really like DJ a lot myself but I can see where he could get under your skin a little if you were his team mate. He pretty much says what he thinks regardless.
