Former NFL player R.W. McQuarters was shot early Saturday as he left a friendís Tulsa residence, but his injuries were not life-threatening, police said Sunday afternoon.
McQuarters, who graduated from Booker T. Washington and played football at Oklahoma State, was at a friendís house in the 1200 block of North Boston Avenue when he walked outside the residence and saw a man standing outside wearing a ski mask, said Tulsa police Sgt. Bill Goree.
The man immediately left the area, Goree said.
About 10 minutes later, McQuarters got into his vehicle and began to drive away, when ďhe heard several shots and felt himself being struck,Ē Goree said.
McQuarters drove himself to Hillcrest Medical Center with injuries that did not appear to be life-threatening, police said.
The bullet that struck him went through the driverís window, Goree said.
The incident occurred between 12:15 and 12:20 a.m. Saturday, police said.
Police do not have a description of the shooter.
McQuarters played defensive back for the Chicago Bears and New York Giants. He was a member of the Giantsí Super Bowl win in 2008.
