When We Last Met the Bulls:

    8p9s Playoff Preview:
Part 1: Why Indiana Can Win
The teams will kick off their first-round series on Saturday evening in Chicago.
The 1st-seeded Bulls are of course heavy favorites over the 8th-seeded Pacers.
We will be breaking down the match-up in much more depth in the hours and
days to come — with most of the analysis pointing to all the reasons that
Indiana has no chance to win — but let’s kick things off on a positive vibe with
a few reasons that the Pacers actually could perhaps pull off one of the biggest
upsets in NBA history...CONTINUE READING PART ONE

    Part 2: The Stoplight Analysis
The first statistical deep dive we’re going take into the Pacers/Bulls series is
what is sometimes called a “Stoplight Analysis.” It’s a simple visual tool that
identifies the good (green), the average (yellow), and the bad (red). In this
instance, green will reflect a top ten ranking in a category, yellow for middle
ten, and red for bottom ten. The graphic above shows where both the Pacers
and the Bulls rank in key advanced statistical categories as of this past
weekend. What I’ve done...CONTINUE READING PART TWO

    Part 3: Synergy Breakdowns
In the next part of our detailed analysis of the upcoming Pacers/Bulls 1st round
playoff series, we’re going to take a look at some Synergy breakdowns.
mySynergySports.com is a fantastic site that tracks a team’s results by play
types — isos, pick-and-rolls, post ups, etc. — and provides film on each of
these plays. It’s a great way to look at how a team approaches its offense, and
where a team is strong or weak at both ends of the floor. Once again, we’re
going to start at the...CONTINUE READING PART THREE

    Part 4: Beating the Bulls
As we continue our Playoff Preview, we will look at the Bulls’ losses. We’ll start
with overall trends and differences, then we’ll break down two specific Chicago
losses that are of interest to this series: March 28 at home to Philadelphia and,
of course, March 18 at Conseco to Indiana. The Chicago Bulls only finished the
season with only 20 losses, which ain’t a lot. There has been nothing in my first
two analyses (stoplight and Synergy) indicating that Chicago is anything other
than an excellent... CONTINUE READING PART FOUR

Part 5: Learning from Indy’s March 18 Win vs. the Bulls
The Bulls have only lost threes games since March started. One of those losses
came at the hands of the Pacers on March 18. Carlos Boozer didn’t play but, as
Tim has shown, these guys don’t get beaten very often so if we want to find
some lessons in how they can perhaps be defeated, we have to look somewhere.
So I re-watched that Pacers victory today to see what could be found and was
struck by a few areas that helped them succeed. Here are a few that the Pacers
should focus on... CONTINUE READING PART FOUR

Part 6: Match Ups Worth Watching
Basketball is a team game, and as a general rule, I believe that the unit is more
important than the individual match ups. However, the individual contests are the
contact points for the units. Each affects how the group – and the game – flows.
For that reason, it’s worth looking at the key head-to-head pairings. It’s on these
that that the success or failure of the whole can pivot. This one is going to be less
about detailed statistics... CONTINUE READING PART SIX

I'm stupid excited for this game. I think we'll either get blown out or win a close one. Don't see the Bulls winning a close one.

If we can keep it close and have confidence late, we're going to win this game

I would love to win. I'll be disappointed with a loss of course, but this team is incredibly early in its development still, so my wounds won't be so deep if we're at least competitive throughout.

I'm glad Kurt isn't starting. He freakin owns Hibbert. In fact whenever Kurt is in the game I would take Hibbert out.

Noah will guard Hibbert he is healthy now and is a great defender when healthy. I would much rather have Boozer out how can you say you are glad Boozer is playing he is a double double machine who does everything well on offense. If a 39 yr old washed up Thomas can lock down Hibbert then he has a lot of work to do.

I think this is my first post ever in a Pacers playoff thread. I joined this forum the same month we were last eliminated from the playoffs. Wow.

They are the 1 seed and have one of the most marketable players in the NBA. Gonna have to earn respect from the media by beating them which is how it should be if your the 8th seed vs the 1 seed.

ESPN is incredibly bias towards the best teams.

    They're barely talking about us.

    There's 2 teams playing.

    They usually respect both teams.

Sort of embarrassed that I like this song, but it's a good pump up song and I have been lifting weights and running on the treadmill to it for like 10 years. NSFW.
