Default 2011 NBA Playoffs: (3) Dallas vs. (6) Portland

The banged-up bunch keeps re-loading, and the Blazers have once again persevered to the postseason, despite major injuries to key players. Behind the acquisition of Gerald Wallace and the inspired performance of LaMarcus Aldridge, Portland has become the lower seed nobody wants to play.

Dallas, meanwhile, is the higher seed everybody wants to play. Their miserable postseason history post-2006 still haunts them, and despite their excellent season, they will once again be tested by their own demons.

Prediction: Portland seems almost too obvious an upset pick, but since I haven't taken one yet, I'll go with the Blazers in 6.

Nate McMillan continues to slowly work himself onto the short list of NBA coaches who actually have some clout.

I am going with the Blazers in 6. Purely on match ups. Wallace is going to give them fits. Roy will have his way. Dirk will keep it close, but his help will be underwhelming.

Likely the closest series of the first round. Fully healthy, the Blazers would probably beat Dallas, but had they been fully healthy, the Blazers would probably have been a higher seed.

Experience or youthful exuberance in the face of adversity?

I will go with youthful exuberance, Blazers in a very hard fought 6. If it goes 7, the home court Mavs win, but my actual prediction is Blazers in 6.

Unless something unusual happens, this should be the best series of the first round by far. And the Mavericks should win it. But I don't think they will. If this is a short series, the Mavs will win it. But if the Blazers steal game 1 or 2, it'll go the distance and the Blazers will win.

    Blazers in 7.

Going with Portland in 6 as well. Getting Gerald Wallace at the trade deadline was the best pickup of anyone.

You can see the similarities between the Magic and the Mavs. Two dominant players with unreliable supporting casts. Having the amazing franchise player is surely nice, but when the NBA is very competitive, you need more than that.

With that said, they'll probably rebound and get the second games. Such is the playoffs.

Buck, I agree that that is most likely, though pretty unfair. They're just not built for the playoffs. (Sorry to point out the obvious.)

I spoke too soon. Dirk brought them back and Kidd just closed it. The basketball gods sure owe Portland some karma after losing both Oden and Roy.

Probably the best first day of the playoffs that I can remember. All 4 games were really good.

There are usually 2 blowouts and often times all home teams win

I'm expecting tomorrow to be a disappointment, the lakers are going to destroy NO and the Celtics are going to do the same to NY.

Portland needs to stop playing Broy the same way they were playing him before he got injured.

I'm not looking forward to Lakers vs N.O. Grizzlies vs spurs should be OK. But the two series on Sunday night should be really good
