Bob Sanders banner to be removed from Lucas Oil Stadium

Work to remove Sanders’ picture from the exterior southside of Lucas Oil Stadium was scheduled to begin today. It’s no small task since the banner is approximately 35-by-60 feet.

The Colts terminated Sanders’ contract in February and the veteran safety subsequently agreed to a free-agent contract with the San Diego Chargers.

According to chief operating officer Pete Ward, the team will replace Sanders’ picture with a huge horseshoe.

“There are so many players to consider,’’ Ward said, “but you can’t put everyone up there.’’

The horseshoe, he added, “is a ‘team’ symbol that we feel is appropriate.’’
