Default Will Vogel rest the starters the last 3 games?

I think it's an interesting topic because arguments could be made for both sides

    Rest the starters

*Gives the bench guys like AJ/DJ/Rush more time to be ready
*Starters will have energy when playoffs start
*Could make the Pacers come out flat in game 1
    *Could disrupt flow

    Play the starters
    *Keep a nice flow going
*Keeps the players sharp for game 1
    *Potential always there for injury
    *Fatigue could be a factor

If you were Vogel, how would you play the last 3 games?

I said it in the #s thread before:

1 ) Vogel should figure out what is the Starting Lineup and 2nd Unit that he wants to use against the Bulls. Do what he did ( a la Carlisle ) when he started Coaching the Team...at set intervals move the 1st unit out as a whole ( while keeping any players that are doing very well on the offensive end ) and then move the 2nd Unit in as a whole. This should establish familiarity and chemistry that the Team needs going into the Playoffs.
2 ) While keeping the Starting Lineup and 2nd Unit together....play the 2nd Unit more minutes together then the Starting lineup. Essentially give the 2nd Unit "Starter" minutes and the "Starters" the 2nd Unit minutes. This essentially goes to what you are saying...rest the Starting lineup while giving the 2nd Unit more minutes to play.
3 ) With the 2nd Unit getting more minutes.....try to give Inferno and BRush more minutes to play so that AJ, Dunleavy ( or PG ), McBob ( or Hansbrough ) and Foster can get used to playing together.

This is David West, he is the Honey Badger, West just doesn't give a *****....he's pretty bad *ss cuz he has no regard for any other Player or Team whatsoever.

I agree. Our second unit will be the key to this series.

He should start preparing the team for the Bulls. Try to work on things they will need to do against the Bulls. Try to use the lineups you expect to use against the Bulls.

As far as resting the starters. LOL, that is only valid for teams that expect to go far in the playoffs, who either have injured or really tired star players.

A team like the pacers no way. Plus we play Friday, Sunday both at home and then Wednesday - that is an easy schedule as far as number of games. \

The only thing maybe I would do if I were Frank is maybe in the Magic game play the starters or best players a little less

And what makes you think that they WON'T go far in the playoffs? Perhaps resting the players could be the reason why they go far in the playoffs.

if you are coaching the lakers you have been coaching the whole season for a long playoff run. if you are coaching the pacers you coach to get into the playoffs and then figure out what to do then.
    Completely different approach.

if the pacers beat the Bulls it will be the biggest upset in NBA playoff history

I don't know if it'd top the Warriors beating the 67-win Mavs in 2007 or even the Nuggets beating the 63-win Sonics in 1994.

The Warriors had Baron davis who was one of the best players in the playoffs and when he is healthy and into it he's one of the best players in the NBA. Plus they acquired Stephen Jackson who played his best ever that season. The Warriors were really good going into the playoffs I believe, not 19-16.

What was the Nuggets record that year?

    I dont know about that

I would say in the 90's when an 8th seeded Nuggets team with Diekemebe Mutombo(sp?) beat the 1 Sonics team with Kemp/Payton

or possibly when the Warriors beat the Mavericks when AJ was coaching

In doing so, do you risk showing the Bulls too much?

I dont think so. Thibss is supposed to be a workaholic. I bet he will watch every minute of the Pacers vs Bulls games from this year, at least once

No, the starting unit still needs to play together so that they can be more cohesive come playoff time. Their inconsistencies are what kills them in games, so if they start to play more together they can become more familiarized with each other and with their plays while playing an actual game.

What they need to be careful are injuries, especially to key players. If they start limping even for a little bit, they should be rested to avoid further injuries.

As always, let Vogel play the 2nd unit more, especially the veterans Posey, Djones and Dun. The two playoff-seasoned vets are critical in the playoffs so they can use the remaining games to remove some rust due to limited playing time. And Dun needs to get his game back as quickly as possible.

These guys don't play comfortably enough with one another to risk the disruption it would take to "rest" them.

Play them. Maybe you leave your second unit in, especially if you opponent is sitting their starters, but you play the same rotation you would expect to play.

Getting into the habit of winning (or fighting for the win, at least) is more important than resting guys that don't really need it.

Vogel said in his presser last night he would let the guys will nagging injurys heal. Which is proably all the players because a nba season will give you nagging injuries .

About all I would do is give the players a max of 30 minutes per game.

We shouldn't throw in the towel and risk continuity nor should we play balls out and risk injury. Overall I would equate these last 3 games to really intense practices.

Anyone remember Dahntay making his rep in Denver by embracing the enforcer role vs Chris Paul in the playoffs? Seems to me that it would make a whole lot of sense for us to sic him on Derrick Rose this time around. Assuming of course the Bulls hold on to the top seed. No one else on the team seems like a suitable defensive matchup for Rose.

The problem there is that Collison would be forced to cover the bigger SG. Fortunately, SG is a weak spot for the Bulls (Bogans/Korver/Brewer) so maybe we can get away with it, some of the time anyway.
