    Default Tyler or Roy?

This may be a little premature. It would probably be better to do this after the playoffs, but we can run it again afterwards to see if things change.

However, who would you choose at this point.

I'd take Roy. He has a far more complete game than Tyler, although it's a shame he doesn't have T's aggressiveness.

i am confused by this poll. is this a 'whose your favorite pacer' type poll? if so, i would take roy. but why choose between two guys who play different positions.

Right now I don't want view either of them as someone that will ever be good enough to build a team around, even as a secondary building blocks.

I'd choose Tyler for a couple reasons.

First if you look at Roy, his two biggest assets at this point are his height and his work ethic. Tyler will never be as tall as Roy, but I believe that he has a similar work ethic.

Second, I think that toughness, both mental and physical, will always be one of Roy's weaknesses. On the other hand, I think both things are strengths of Tyler's.

As a practical matter, it probably depends on their trade value. My guess is Roy's is a lot higher, so assuming that is the case I would choose Tyler, trade Roy. (not sure that is the best way to build the team, but for this thread and the question asked, that is my answer)

If someone put a gun to my head, I'd take Tyler just because I like his attitude a lot more than Roy's.

I don't think you meant to say attitude. Roy has a great attitude. Maybe mental fortitude?

    Roy.

There just aren't that many skilled 7'2 guys out there. I expect both Tyler and Roy to be the best players they can possibly be. Roy's going to end up better.

Mentality is a bit of a problem..but he's young, and I'm willing to see how that goes.

Tyler's great, but Roy's development is more important IMO. I fully expect him to overcome things both physically and mentally. If he does that, he may be a real anchor in the middle. So, while Tyler is clearly ahead of him right now I think time is on Roy's side. The longer he plays NBA basketball, the stronger and more developed his body will become. I wouldn't be surprised if he's playing better at 36 or 37 years old than he is right now. The key is that in a couple years he has physically developed to the point he can hold position in the paint. If that happens, teams will be in real trouble trying to stop his game because he's very gifted offensively. Moreso than most big men in the league.

I said awhile ago that Tyler's bread and butter was going to be the mid range. He's proving that. Now I'm saying that Roy's game is similar to Duncan's on offense...but with a better post game. IOW, I still think he has a chance to be one of the better centers in the NBA...because he is truly gifted. His problems can largely be fixed...

Tyler, easily. Roy has shown no consistency up to this point, and that is one of Tyler's strengths and that is very impressive for a second year player.

It's hilarious that you make a statement about someone being "consistant" based entirely on a period of about 10 or so games. Roy had the beginning of the season, and was much, much better than tyler has been during that period.

    Is Roy then also "consistent"?

Well, you can't teach 7 foot and a big guy that obviously loves playing for this team and cheering his teammates on. You can't teach Tyler's motor or willingness to go at anyone in the league either.

But it is pretty obvious Roy can correct some of his mistakes with a better big man coach and more work in the offseason. It would be much easier to replace Tyler than a 7 footer with skill and the potential to become a defensive anchor whom we funnel all of their drives through the lane to.

We have had a lot of really close polls lately. Makes for good discussion.

I picked Roy, ultimately because he is 7'2 and he can score. The tired old cliche "you can't teach size" played into my thinking here.

Can't agree completely with this. Roy shut Bogut down completely in Milwaukee awhile back leading to an easy victory.

Despite Tyler's development, I think Roy at this point has much more trade value.

I agree that you can't teach size, but you can't teach intensity either. I am just glad that we have both of these guys, and don't have to pick one or the other. If I had to pick which one I believe has the most potential, I would have to say Tyler. He plays his heart out every game, while Roy seems to come out sluggish at times. As everyone has been saying, it is hard to analyze a player through 10 games, but he is making one heck of a first impression.

Plumlee reminds me of a young Dale Davis. Good rebounding and he contests shots well on defense and his offensive game is very raw just like DD's was coming out of college.
