Default David West suffers knee injury, taken off in wheelchair

I don't think he'll be a free agent after this.

Video linked, but I don't want to watch it. Hear it's shaun livingston like. Would appreciate confirmation from those braver than I.

He has a player option for next year- if it's very serious, he will most likely opt into it.

Is not as bad as Livingston but I think is bad enough to be out for the year, damn I feel bad for him.

Feel bad regardless, feel extra bad that he was getting ready to get a nice pay day.

Landry trade may come in handy for the Hornets and their playoff hopes. I still think CP3 leaves when he becomes a free agent, if not sooner

Well thats 2 signs of old age creeping up on West. First his back problems and now he blows out a knee. I think i'll pass on him now.

not as bad as livingston, but that buckle sure didn't look good. I'm thinking its worse than just a dislocation.

I was listening to this game on my comp through the NBA LP Radio or whatever from the Jazz announcers, and you could literally hear D West screaming as if he was right behind them. It gave me cold chills.

You disagree? Lot of guys in the league have a nagging injury like back strains, but once they start blowing out knees on simple layups. That generally tells you their body is starting to wear down, and their bones and joints are not as structurally sound to be playing heavy minutes anymore.

But honestly, I believe Bogut's last year was harder to watch than Shaun's.

    Please.

Amare Stoudemire blew out his knee when he was like 22.

Maurice Creek blew out his knee at IU when he was 18.

Robbie Hummel has blown out his knee twice before he's 22.

Serious knee injuries are freak injuries for the most part. They have very little to do with mileage on the body.

Lingering stuff like strains and sprains not healing are a better indicator of the miles piling up. Now does an injury like this mean he's possibly going to be prone to those int he future? Yes, but he would have suffered a serious injury on that fall whether he was 20 or 40.

It was not just a simple layup, that was an awkward fall, even a young player could get hurt like this, this doesn't only happens to old players, just go ask Bynum,Griffing,Broy, etc.

David West is one of the NBA's true "good guys," I hope it turns out to be one of those it looked a lot worse than it really was type of things.

On the other hand, if it really is bad, and this is something that dissuades us from offering him $12 million per year for the next several seasons, I won't be terribly distraught.

Not likely that he would have wanted to come here anyway.

Everyone in the NBA plays hurt. Whether its a nagging tendinitis or lower back strain like Foster. Thats why you see half the players in the leauge wearing ice packs while sitting on the bench. All your examples are of young players. West is 30 years old. You can't compare the 2. He is gonna take longer to recover than a player 10 years younger than he.

Exactly. My brother blew out his knee when he was 14. A kid jumped on his back and it just buckled, torn ACL, couldn't get it repaired til he was 16 since he was still growing so much. From what my brother told me, I imagine its pretty similar to how West's knee buckled upon landing. Has absolutely nothing to do with age.

Why do you keep referring to Blake's last name as Griffing?

Your original post makes it sound like he blew out his knee because he is 30 and not 24. Thats why people are calling you out.
