Default Catching the Knicks for 7th

We're only 4.5 games back now, and with our relatively weak schedule to finish out the season + the Knicks current struggles, I think it's possible that we could overtake them for 7th.

    Thoughts?

Well, I'd say it's not likely.

If the Knicks continue to play horrid defense (which I fully expect), then I suppose we have a chance.

Longshot, but that team IS imploding something awful. We win these next 3 winnable games we may be able to put some real pressure on them.

The Knicks still have to play Orlando and Boston twice, plus Chicago once. Our schedule is not nearly that difficult in only playing Boston and Orlando once

We have to go on a hot streak and lose at most 3 games.

It's definitely not likely that we will move into 7th and we'll be lucky to finish 6 games below .500.

I think it might be more likely that we dont make the playoffs than us getting the 7th seed.

haha well just tossing the possibility out there. I recognize that its not likely at all, but I just found it interesting/entertaining that the Knicks thought they were gonna be the next "super team" and are now in jeopardy of losing their playoff spot to the Pacers haha.

Don't the P's currently own the tiebreaker on them too? How does that fit in here?

The Knicks will struggle like the Heat struggled earlier this season. When the figure it out and the chemistry comes together, they'll be good. Coach D' and his defense might have to find a new home though. The Heat started coming on strong when they focused on defense. I don't see NYK doing that, so maybe it will continue to crumble.

Pacers have to get hot and put the effort out there every night like they gave for 3 quarters against CHI. Still a young team, so consistency is still missing. Maybe they hit that magical moment in a young team's journey when the switch is flipped and everything works perfectly. Odds of that? Who knows? It always happens out of the blue.

I expect the Knicks to start playing better soon. Their defense will probably be a problem for them for the rest of the season, but they will pick it up. Too much talent.

Note Anthem's MN thread. Highly improbable.

The number 1 seed isn't set of course. Bulls and Celts are both 50-19.. Pacers may need to be 7th if they want to play the Bulls.

i'm just assuming Chicago will finish #1. they've been more impressive than Boston lately.

anyway it doesnt really matter. it would be a miracle to even get 2 wins against either (if Boozer is healthy)

I would expect this team to have to finish just under .500 to have a chance, and that is going to be difficult. If we only lose 2 maybe 3 more games then I think there is a decent chance, but anymore than that and the odds drop faster than the stock market.

As improbable as this is to happen it should be noted that on gametime tonight on NBA tv that they did talk about us catching the Knicks.

They had the same thoughts about it being highly unlikely but still a possibility.

We have 40 loses whereas they only have 35. That means we are actually 5 full games behind them. We can't catch them just by winning. They have to lose 5 games. I do think we will gain ground on them though, but maybe only a game or two.

As is, I'm not really concerned with NY, I'm worried about the Bucks catching us.

What would be interesting would be if the Bucks would pass us and we would need to beat NY to catch them when we play them.

If anything else it would help our bargaining position in free agency to attract free agents is the way I would look at it. Man that would be an epic collapse if that ended up happening and we overtook them I'm cheering for that situation to happen.

I agree, that would be very encouraging, and if we could have a good showing in the playoffs, maybe winning a couple games it would to possibly sign a solid free agent in the off season.

Agreed. The Pacers just need to focus on winning and getting into the playoffs.

I don't really want the Pacers to play the Celtics at all. I think they can at least compete, meaning not get blown out 4 games in-a-row, with the Bulls. Either way, it's not going to make a big difference. They'll get swept or lose in 5 games at the most.

Larry is not coming back, he didn't have a meeting with Orlando for not reason, yeah he is coming back to the NBA but not to the Pacers, the notion that he is a taking a year off and then come back is absurd.
