    Default Pacers MVP

I asked this in the game thread tonight, but thought I would not damn the question to the recesses of hyperbole in the game thread. Simple question, if you had to choose the MVP of the Pacers this season to this point, who would it be?

Granger. We want more and are disappointed, but he is the team's best player, most important player, and most valuable player.

Sadly, and I love the guy, but probably Jeff Foster.

As of late, Hansbrough. Over the season, nobody is worthy.

You could break this down month by month and it would be someone different every time. Inconsistency rules this team.

That's why I thought it was so interesting. I honestly don't know who I would pick.

This has to be the best rhetorical question of the year. I don't think I can ever think of year in my 20+ years of being a true fan where I couldn't come up with the answer. Granted that many of those years it was 31 so it was easy enough.

    best player: probably Paul George
most important player: probably Roy Hibbert
    most valuable player: none.

this board has ragged on me for YEARS for my comments concerning granger's abilities as a leader and as a player. never have i said he was a bad player, but how could many of you be so blind as to his flaws as a player and continually give him the benefit of the doubt? basketball is not about statistics, it is about understanding the game and having the desire to constantly improve, put forth 100% effort every possession, playing within a team setting, and demanding the best of yourself on the court. danny lacks in all five of those phases and yet i hear people still saying he's our best player? get real...

croz 24 agreed - but i think he met many of your definitions of basketball up until 2 years ago.

ppl are just having a hard time letting go. many people have a lot invested in granger emotionally. 5 years later we are all still invested in Ron Artest, either as sympathizers, haters, or supporters. sports and loyalty are funny things.

and a huge disappointment. in retrospect, maybe i understand why o'b was so hard on him - he knew that as hibs went, the team would go.

Basketball is entirely about statistics. I would take five guys that half-*** it and score 20 points a game rather than me and four of my friends who try as hard as we can.

Foster is my favorite player but my job requires objectivity that I try to take into my personal life as well, so with that disclaimer, I would still say it has to be Jeff.

The reason is that he has exceeded expectations (at least so far, and assuming he does not miss significant time with back problems). He is a big reason for the Goon Squad's success. His offensive rebounding keeps us in games.

However, if Jeff is option 1A, Tyler would be 1B. I shudder to think how badly we would be blown out every night without these guys, and how many close games we would have lost.

    I won't give it to a player.

I'll give the MVP to Bird for firing the former coach... but then again, we could also take it away from him for not firing the former coach soon enough.

As far as I'm concerned that has been the only real accomplishment achieved during the course of the season. That, and seeing the youngsters play possibly enough to evaluate them.

after seeing the last sequence of games, i'm not so sure o'b really was as bad as we made him out to be.

    He was.

Heck, it's hugely his fault we're going through this right now. This is all mental/youth stuff.

You think if, instead of pulling Hibbert, he was taught how to handle double teams..and played against double teams, we wouldn't be better for it now? How about if he had given any of the other younger guys consistent time?

This is, unfortunately, what learning can look like. Obie, and..I think we can all understand why..didn't want to go through this. But we had to eventually.
