Thread: Think Before You Upgrade

    Default Think Before You Upgrade

All season there has been much talk on PD about if we just had better players at different positions, some all-stars, it would solve our problems. I agree sometimes a trade can make a difference and I do see some weaknesses on our team but we all could profit from reading the following article. There is more to it than just getting the best players.

Indiana is so lucky they don't have Lebron James and Dwayne Wade....they too could have been a struggling 43-18 team with three all-stars...

I think we all should aspire to acquire players so gifted that the 4th best record in the league is looked upon as a cautionary tale.

“Obviously there’s a trend with us where we do the same things over and over,” Bosh said. “We’ve blown a lot of 20-point leads. We’ve blown a lot of games where we’re in full control."
We fired our coach for **** like this.

I've said it since the beginning, but a Big 3 of SG-SF-PF wouldn't work as well as PG-SF-C. LeBron would have been better off in New York or Chicago, and Miami would be doing well without him. But Miami's cursed because of the confusion at the closing spot. Someone tweeted last night that D-Wade has (and should always be) the Heat's closer. Too bad LeBron stole the show, right?

Our arena, their arena, Rucker park, it just doesn't matter. We're bigger, longer, younger, faster, and hungrier.

Of course Whitlock can't go without his unprovoked Manning bashing. What he says at the end has nothing to do with the article despite him trying to twist it that way. Give the Colts the defense the Patriots had in the early 2000s and it doesn't matter if Manning is the "de-facto offensive coordinator" or not, they'd have more Super Bowls.

He really needs to stop the Colts hate...his buddy Jeff George sucked he needs to give it up.

The author of the article is missing the point. Just any three superstars can't get together and win. If you took Howard, Rose and Durant, then you could probably throw a team together among scrubs and it would be a real contender. Miami's problem is the mix of players doesn't go together that well. NY's mix isn't that good either.

What makes Boston, San Antonio, Dallas etc., special is they have good big men and good point guards. The Lakers of course have everything but a point, so they can muddle though. Chicago and Oklahoma, are up and coming teams that are going to be special because they are getting the mix right.

You will never read any quotes from last summer from Pat Riley or any team official (I not talking about players) saying that they were likely to win a title this year.

The reality was that year one you were going to have just 3 top paid guys, with one moderate deal (Miller) and 12 guys playing for nothing. The plan was to fill in the holes, over time, with vets willing to play for peanuts and with people taking the salary cap exceptions in future years.

They lose close games (5-12 in games under 5 points) because their half court offense bogs down for long stretches, with Wade or Lebron pounding the rock on the floor, everyone else watching, and then a contested hero shot clangs off.

Talent additions will fix this. Bibby might even help some, even though he is an awful defender he is an upgrade over Chalmers and Arroyo.

And yeah, Whitlock is a freakin' tool. He makes Kravitz look like a Mensa Man.

Ok first off Miami is playing very well right now and they have a phenomenal record. They have lost quite a few big games, but its not because of Wade and LeBron. They play well together because they play different positions, and they're both very unselfish. The reality is the two are the most complete players at their respective positions. The reason they aren't the best team in the NBA right now is not because "Wade is de facto GM." It's because it takes more to build a championship team than just one off season. Miami will get there no doubt. The problem is Bosh is simply not a complete player, and everyone else on the roster sucks.

After next seasons off season I bet they are much closer to becoming a true contender. And sadly once they do fill those major voids, they will destroy everyone.

If there is a hard cap put in place and the elimination of the mid level exception in the new CBA Miami is looking at the future right now.

Signing Bosh was a mistake. They would have been wiser to split that money among a competent point guard and center and play Haslem at PF

I actually think that he would fare very well in Clipperland. He, EJ, and Blake sprinkled in with Mo and DeAndre is dangerous.

Honestly the Clippers or Chicago would have been the best fit

I like watching a young team with potential than a team like Miami.

I feel like it's more of a team effort than one guy carrying the whole team.

We're finally heading somewhere. We know who our core is and now we need to evaluate who needs to be part of it and who to add.
