Default Projected Final Eastern Conference Standings

If every team in the East simply wins the games they "should" (those against teams with a lower winning percentage), this would be the final standings:

    1) Boston (67-15)
    2) Miami (64-18)
    3) Chicago (63-19)
    4) Orlando (56-26)
    5) Atlanta (50-32)
    6) New York (43-39)
    7) Philadelphia (42-40)
    8) Indiana (35-47)
    Charlotte (34-48)
    Milwaukee (31-51)
    Detroit (28-54)
    New Jersey (23-59)
    Washington (19-63)
    Toronto (16-66)
    Cleveland (10-72)

So, as long as we just take care of business and nobody below us plays over their head, we're a playoff team.

Teams to keep an eye on for the rest of the season: , , , ,

You only see us winning 11 out of our next 28?

No, but we should win at least 11 out of our next 28.

These are projections, not my guesses.

I just did a similar thing only using our team against the remaining teams winning percentage. We will be facing a collective percentage of 0.48.

I came to conclusion that this wasn't a very helpful number overall but I have a bad feeling that we will be 9th in the East.

Yeah I have a terrible suspicion that Charlotte is going to start winning a ****load of games after break, unfortunately. that we can make it.. We deserve this.

I see the Cavs winning 1 or 2 more games after what they showed the other night against LA.

Shade, yours is an educated guess, based on the fact that teams should beat those teams that it is better than, from a current W-L record.

My guess comes more from the heart and what I think of the current team. I believe the current team performs at the level of an overall .500 team. Therefore, I'll pick them as though we played .500 ball the rest of the way... therefore 38-44. Still probably not good enough for 7th seeding.

Their schedule is certainly not as favorable as ours and they're still really hurting in the frontcourt (they've been forced to give more minutes to Najera). They should be better once Tyrus Thomas comes back but I believe he still has a few more weeks (he was supposed to be out 8 weeks total). I think in the next month we should be able to create some space between us and them but after that I'm not sure how well we will be able to keep it.

count did one of these not long ago on 8p9s. He came up with a surprisingly rosy 42 wins for the Pacers, good for 7th seed ahead of the Sixers. And count55 isn't what you'd call an optimistic guy. Of course he did project a win against the Pistons...

i think it would be more accurate if you did it by home/away instead of overall.

And for that matter, "Hawk" is a fitting nickname for Josh, as is "Animal" for Tyler.

I say were a lock for 7th seed. I just feel like were flat out better than Philly. Depending on what happens with the whole Melo, we might be chasing the Knicks for 6th. Either way, I do not want this team caught up in a race for 8th because the Bobcats and the Bucks and Pistons all stink.

I would be shocked if anything less than 40 wins gets us into the playoffs

I see there being a larger gap between the 8th spot and 9th spot this year.

I don't see any teams below the 8th spot currently going to step up.

I think it's gonna come down to us, Philly, and possibly the Knicks battling for positions in the standings.

I also think we're gonna finish at .500.

Why? We, Charlotte, and teams below that aren't the best of teams right now..

We will probably lose at home to either the Suns or Jazz at home in Feb. Count that as 1 loss. In March I see us losing to OKC, Dallas, Boston and New York on the road. That's 4 more losses. If Melo goes to NY, we could lose to NY at home, as well as Boston and Chicago. Three more losses. In April we have Orlando on the road with New Orleans as a possible road loss as well. Two more losses. And we have the Knicks and Hawks at home. Potentially 2 more losses.

We also might lose to the Bobcats on the road. This leaves 16 games that we should win. However, some of these winnable games are on the 2nd night of back-to-backs where the first game is a tough one against a physical opponent.

So I think we go .500 the rest of the way, losing 4 games that we might otherwise hope to win. We won't fall further below .500; the last playoff spot will likely go to us b/c we have less in the loss column right now than a few other teams, and they would need to play over .500 ball to beat us out.
