    Default Stephenson: PG or SG?

Is Stephenson a point or 2gaurd? im guessing over half the members in here have nvr seen lance play. im in that group.

i did not have access to summer league over the summer, do not watch UC, and missed the preseason games as well.

havent been gushing over lance like many have on here, and apparently like Bird and Boyle either.. but i guess with the recent comments from Bird, Boyle, and so on my expectations need to rise on lance.

my question is, to those who are in the know or have seen him play, is he going to be a point or shooting gaurd, if he makes it in this league?

im concerned with the off the court issues this guy has, last thing the pacers need when were trying to win back fans is more bad PR for the team.

hate to see the pacers end up moving elsewhere due to one bad apples actions.

that aside, is lance another wing for the pacers or do some believe he may be able to play the point at this level. his defense im guessing is going to be the determining factor.

He said he's a combo guard.

He played more SG in college, but can handle the ball fairly well to play some time at PG.

    Stay tuned.
We need better than solid. No JJ Redicks, Andray Blatche, Mike Dunleavy type guys to have big roles on our team.

    Bingo

and that is exactly how I hope he is used

one thing though , when I think of combo guards, I think of typically a SG in a PG's body. Lance is not that though. He is really a SG that has PG abilities

okay, im good with him being labeled a combo gaurd, but he will have to be able to gaurd quicker pg's.. and from what i have read, sounds like it could be a problem.

Its good that he gets to practice against DC. DC is exactly the type he'll have trouble with, imo.

But the DC's wont be able to guard him in the post. It is a mis match both way. Just like last night with Stuckey on DC. Lance is strong as a bull.

I'd rather have him backing up Paul at SG which is going to be a really nice rotation.

His ballhandling is a huge positive and I think he can really throw off a lot of opposing players. He's a decent shooter so with say AJ out there, he can pass Lance the ball for a possible open shot.

He started with DC in preseason against the Bulls and he did well at the position.

Looking forward, I think we'll go with.

    PG Collison/Price
    SG George/Stephenson
    SF Granger/Rush(Jones)
    PF FA(McRoberts/Hansbrough
    C Hibbert/McRoberts(FA)

With Lance playing SG, Brandon is gonna have to adjust to playing more minutes at SF.

Dahntay is pretty good at that position.

this is closer to what i expect as well. sounds like lance is being pushed to become a point gaurd but the likely scenario will be sg.

or more likely what Stuckey and Jamal Crawford are which is both. Maybe he is the backup SG/PG depending on the match up that night.

Why don't we see him play in the Association first before we make a judgement. Makes sense to me before we evaluate him

"But, first, let us now praise famous moments, because something happened Tuesday night in Indianapolis that you can watch a lifetime’s worth of professional basketball and never see again. There was a brief, and very decisive, and altogether unprecedented, outburst of genuine officiating, and it was directed at the best player in the world, and that, my dear young person, simply is not done."

no one knows exactly when that will happen. i wanted to know if any on here who have seen lance play thinks he is realistically capable of playing the pg position.?

if so, then we would have the bigger style of pg im hoping we acquire to b/u DC. DC/Price/lance would be a very solid pg rotation. ideally having that style of combo gaurd would benefit us against players like stuckey, deron williams, rose.

we can wait to make an evaluation but it could be several games from now, just wanted an idea of what to expect.

if we get a darn good player for a 2nd round pick then i guess it really doesnt matter which position he plays at.

Lance is most definitely a shooting guard, but I think it'll help his game to learn the point to help him be more of a team player. Also, if he can play some spot minutes at the point to take advantage of certain matchups, then I'm all for it.

Just hope they've been working on his defense.

I haven't seen him play much. But since he is an SG that we drafted to (kind of) fill the missing PG spot, everyone expected him to be able to play/command that position. He'll play better as a combo guard, playing SG as necessary, and playing PG when we need scorers instead of ball-handlers.

Someone said that Lancelot was "instant offense." If that's the case, he'd be better as a SG, or as a typical combo guard.

both guys will learn from each other and they'll get better

dc on the defense and lance working against a pg for the possible few minutes he'll see at that position

    PG

There is no doubt in my mind Lance is a PG. He has better court vision and passing ability than any PG we have on the roster, IMO. And he has the body to be a very good NBA defender in time. The problem is Lance wasn't in good enough shape entering the season. He needed to shed about 20 lbs, so hopefully he's put his time off to good use.

He plays the same game as Collison really, but he is a more gifted passer and has better court vision than Darren. His mid range game is probably just as good and that is Collisons biggest strength. And his size is just such a huge x factor at that position it's hard for me to imagine him being better anywhere else on the court. I want my PG to be a threat whenever they have the ball, and Lance has the potential to be that type of player.

And as far as his off the court issues I think they are probably a little over blown at this point in time. People are still traumatized by Jamal Tinsley around these parts. But I think the biggest difference between the two is that Lance is a real competitor. He plays with a fire that you never saw from Jamal Tinsley. That says a lot to me and it will take him a long way.
