Thread: Pacers/Detroit postgame thread

I thought the Pistons played great transition defense tonight. Usually we will get quite a few points that way with our guards but we got absolutely nothing in transition that I remember. You gotta give it up to the Pistons for coming out with the intention of stopping any fast breaks.

DC is in some kinda funk, I hope he gets it together over the break.

I've fine with the core players. Collison and George will play better. Hopefully the team will take care of the ball better in the 2nd half. Half to learn to block out. If we limit offensive rebounds, we likely win that game tonight, regardless of how bad we played

For those that are freaking out about this game look, THE LAKERS LOST AGAINST CLEVELAND TODAY, even the worse teams get lucky or play better.

yeah, but luck had very little to do with this game. Both teams shot the hell out of the ball. Effort was the big difference.

    Hey fellas:

I missed both yesterday's game and today's. I was just wondering from looking at the box scores, how has Brandon Rush been since coming back? I know he closed out the game tonight but should he be in there in place of PG or Dunleavy? I caught most of overtime and it seems like with both McRoberts and Rush, we are way too indecisive and just don't have enough scorers (I know DC has been off). Sometimes we do need Dun out there or Hansbrough I guess. For those who watched, what did y'all think?
To me, Rush has looked like his usual self. Strong defense, good shooting, but not involved enough to really make a difference. But he's only gotten in limited minutes. I think he deserves to get consistent minutes under the new coach to fully assess where he's at.

It sucks that we went with so many wings tonight, but we have a lot of talent.

I want us to go with a 10 man rotation only.

Frank needs to make some decisions on who's gonna play or not.

That too, the Piston's effort was better today.

After last night's game, and them being such a young team..is it really reasonable to expect anything different.

Honestly, with the back to back with Miami, and the poor matchup in the backcourt..I expected a loss tonight.

Chris and Clark made an interesting observation.

The rebounding and second chance stats were actually even I believe around the end of regulation.

But it sure seemed as though the Pistons had about 183 ORebs compared to the Pacers 3...

That made all the difference, not getting out in transition to convert easy buckets like we have been doing lately, because we never got the key rebounds.

Any team that has Dunleavy getting more than five minutes a game will be soft.

Also, the positive from this game. Vogel no longer has the monkey on his back of messing with something that's working. Starting backcourt clearly needs help defensively. Put Rush in. Case closed.
    PG Collison/Price
    SG Rush/Jones(George)
    SF Granger/George(Jones)
    PF McRoberts/Hansbrough
    C Hibbert/Foster

That's what it needs to be.

I really don't want us to run more than a 10 man rotation and I don't think Frank does either.

We have so much talent at the wing and Mike is good when he's shooting well, but Brandon and Dahntay are defensive players who shoot/score too.

I get what you are saying, but if we want to get over the hump and truly be a playoff contending team then yes it is reasonable to expect a win tonight. Games like tonight should be won.

The Pistons create a match-up nightmare for the Pacers at the PG spot as they don't have a natural PG, they use McGrady, or Prince, or Stuckey sometimes to bring the ball up, but all their guards are very big compared to DC/AJ and that spot was killed over and over again.
"It's just unfortunate that we've been penalized so much this year and nothing has happened to the Pistons, the Palace or the city of Detroit," he said. "It's almost like it's always our fault. The league knows it. They should be ashamed of themselves to let the security be as lax as it is around here."

To me the difference in this game was the 50/50 balls. They got all of them. Some of it was effort but it seemed like the ball just bounced their way all night.

Everyone needs to remember that DC is a second year player. He is gonna have ups and downs.

There is no defense for how Mike's been playing. It's time to give Brandon those minutes.

We'll be back to form after the break. We need the rest/practice time.

He played really well tonight, but it wasn't enough to carry the whole team.

If DC played like himself tonight, we would've won this.

It goes to show how important he is to this team.

Granger, Dunleavy, Roy, DC, and Tyler played terrible defense and hardly anyone pursued rebounds. I'm not sure why people keep saying the Pacers need an athletic PF -- they've got one in Josh if they'll use him. When he gets the minutes, he's a lot better than Hansbrough day in and day out. I'm not knocking Tyler -- I like him -- but tonight, for instance, he just didn't have it, and he has a lot to work on to get better.

If the team is truly buying into Coach Vogel's mindset, then yes... It is reasonable to expect us to win road games against sub .500 teams.

If it's all just a bunch of talk and the team hasn't truly turned that proverbial corner after the coaching change, then you are probably right... A loss tonight WOULD then be expected.

But I don't for one minute feel that the players or coaches feel that the new mindset of our coach and team is just posturing. They believe it and they should be pissed right now.

I tend to stay out of the game threads for that reason. Well, and I'm always attending the home games.

I'm disappointed. I feel like these are the games that we need to win if we want to be taken seriously as a playoff contender. Do I understand the situation and why we lost tonight? Absolutely. My problem is if we are going to call ourselves a "blood and guts" team, then we we better act like it night in and night out.
