Vogel's 7-1 start has got to be hard on JOB's ego. I'm not saying he's sitting home rooting for the team to lose....just sayin

"Why isn't he playing Posey dammit!" "Why are the young guys getting all the playing time?" "You can't win with playing just Josh and Tyler at the 4?" "Where's the stretch 4 at?"

Honestly, I think JOB set things up so that if he got fired, the Pacers would most likely hire Frank.

    For that, I thank him.

I think Jim was so burnt out he probably is fishing in New Jersey somewhere. The last few interviews I saw with him, he looked and sounded very beat down and just sick and tired.

I think he is very happy for Frank. It's gotta be hard though putting your whole life into something like this and then be powerless to do anything except be an observer.

Jim is a smart man. He knew this was his last year, and he wanted a long vacation. Seriously, it was brilliant. He could not have gotten fired any quicker without breaking the law.

I am sorry but I don't think he was that smart.

I don't get this whole "Jim is a smart man." thing that has been going around. What ever indicated this? I'm not trying to be mean, but he was the dumbest coach that I have ever seen. What ever indicated to y'all that he was a smart man?

Is that so y'all don't feel bad about calling him a bad coach or do y'all honestly believe he is a smart man? If you do, please explain.

I personally think he makes Lloyd Christmas and Harry Dunne look like genius'.

People think because of all of his statistics and such that he was some genius.

To me, he looked like he did everything in his power to lose games. If Jim wasn't some people's lesson on statistics, I don't know what else could be...

Exactly what I was thinking. I cannot imagine what JOB is thinking about all this, or rather I have not bothered to imagine what JOB is thinking about all this. The fact is, "I couldn't care less."

Exactly, and that's why scrubs like Murphy excelled under O'Brien they were the absolute kings of hollow statistics.

I honestly don't care but I wouldn't be upset if Jimmy was thinking to himself, "Why? Why did I have to be a stubborn idiot? Why?".

Jim is smart in terms of IQ. That is, he is an intellectual. IOW, he has no common sense and therefore makes dramatic mistakes. Not mistakes an average Joe would make. Amazingly foolish mistakes.

Combine that with his stubbornness, arrogance and tendency to use negative motivation and...you begin to get the full picture.

I can't remember for sure, but didn't there use to be a pro basketball coach named Jim O'Brien? Nah, it's just my imagination.

Wouldn't all those combined be equal to "not a smart man"?

I didn't even see him as an intellectual, but maybe that's just me.

Maybe he's been trying to get fired for three years.

...in that case, maybe he is a smart man.

You're exactly right! Just like Josh McRobert's play. Irrelevant

I think he would be happy for Frank, considering what Frank said their last exchange was like. I have no reason to believe Frank would lie about how Jim spoke to him upon his appointment.

I've never been able to figure out what Jim was/is thinking and that has not changed. I'm just glad he's gone.

Realistically, while in a different manner I wouldn't be surprised if Vogal and Obrien still discuss the team (as friends and as a mentor). I expect Jim wishes Frank the best and wants nothing but the best for the team. Jim new what he was getting into when he took the job, including the criticism. His job was never to make fans it was to manage a team in recovery. Don't forget what things were like when he was hired.

I don't remember who made this

I liked the way he left with a bang in Chicago leaving us with a preview of Vogel for a few minutes.
