Default Agent: Carmelo Trade Should Have Domino Effect

The NBA's trade deadline is less than two weeks away, but there haven't been quite as many rumors as we're used to this February.

Carmelo Anthony has dominated speculation since before the start of the 2010-11 season and there is no guarantee the Nuggets will move him before the Feb. 24 deadline.

So if Anthony isn't dealt, will the deadline come and go without much movement?

It's too early to tell, but at least one NBA agent believes that an Anthony trade would lead to more action across the league.

"The entire trade market through the NBA seems quiet, waiting for the potential Carmelo trade to occur," the agent told RealGM's Andrew Perna via e-mail. "That should have a domino effect throughout the league."

So if you're looking for a host of trades, you'd better hope Denver decides to part with their All-Star forward.

I really agree with this Mike Wells did to in his lastest interview. If we make a move it will be after Carmello is dealt. I expect the next 12 days to been very intersting.

The trade deadline feels almost like a holiday to me. Definitely one of the most exciting days in sports, imo.

I expect the sliding Knicks to scramble to do what they can if the losses keep mounting.

MSG is already starting to chant "We want Me-lo" Losses and slipping on their playoff grip

Given the sloth-like nature of the Nuggets FO when it comes to trading Melo.....I expect the next 11 days to be very boring. They're going to drag the rest of the league with them while they mull over whether they should accept a crappy offer from the Knicks or not.
Ash from Army of Darkness: Good...Bad...I'm the guy with the gun.

This is David West, he is the Honey Badger, West just doesn't give a *****....he's pretty bad *ss cuz he has no regard for any other Player or Team whatsoever.

    Agreed.

    My prediction is this:

2 to 3 minor trades throughout league.

Carmelo doesn't get dealt. Knicks continue to low ball Nuggets with crap offers.

Pacers make no moves. We're still stuck with TJ

Deadline passes with minimal/no activity like always

PD starts "Fire Larry" protests because we made no moves.

    The end.
Stop quoting people I have on ignore!

I expect the Knicks to do everything and anything to get Melo. They are 8-12 since the new year. I think they will try and get a third team in pretty hard.

Right now, it feels like there are about twenty people at the pool waiting for the first person to jump in. Only, that person has been at the edge of the pool in a dark green Speedo for the last sixth months!

This seems more and more likely, don't see us making a move.

There will be someone uninformed person who will post a Fire LB thread. The bottom line is this team does not have to make a deal. They can wait until the offseason and 2 things could happen:
    1. Players currently on roster will get better because of experience this year.
    2. Some team might throw a good player at us along with a draft pick so they can get under the cap (Remember last year: Hinrich?)

Unless Bird gets hit with a deal he "loves" I would bank on him waiting until the summer when a permanent coach is in place! Really could be the best scenerio.

It makes no difference if a permanent coach is in place this summer or not, b/c after June 30 w/o a new CBA there will be NO trades. Expect a lockout that is going to last for awhile. My guess is it won't be settled until at least half the 011-012 season is gone.

If that is the case I can catch up on a number of things.

Either way, there will be a should be a permanent coach in place before any significant trades are made. The CBA problems do present a problem but that will be worked out eventually. Get a coach first - then make the moves to fit his system (if needed)!

So if the Pacers do make a significant trade, would you all see that as an endorsement to Vogel next year?

The cap space is the most valuable thing we can get right now. There aren't any players that are available that I would consider much of an upgrade. At least in terms of how much they are getting paid for what they would produce. I think standing pat is the best thing we could do, unless we get a draft pick and expiring for one of our expiring vets. I think this group can get us to the playoffs and I think that is important for our young guys.

Once again, patience is a virtue, PD.

I expect the Knicks will make the trade because a sign and trade without Curry on the books to equalize salary isn't going to work.

Melo loses significant money if he isn't traded and becomes a free agent and could be just a little pissed that the knicks wouldn't give up more to get him..

There are times when Walsh jumps when he shouldn't and doesn't jump when he should. The crap he has offered isn't even good gamesmanship.
