    Default Contender/Prentender Vol. 14 - Memphis Grizzlies

    You know the drill. Tell us your opinion on the prospects of the Memphis Grizzlies for the upcoming season.

    Contender - sort of. If they'd gotten Dampier they'd be a contender for real. This may end up being a holding pattern year for them - 50 wins and a 4th-5th seed but they have some very solid pieces - all they need is one more.

    They'll have about 15 million in cap space next summer and would only lose Swift and Battier out of significant players if they let them go. My guess is that Jerry will make a big play for an impact player and in 2005-06 we'll see another WC contender.

    The future for that team is very bright.

    They're going to have to cut 2 of their bench players and put 3 on the IR... I wonder what their intersquad scrimages are like ... That will leave them with the most solid bench in the league.

    They are extremely versatile and can't be eliminated as contenders, but without a big star, they are not favorites by any stretch of the imagination.

    Come to think of it, they should have definently made a run at Shaq and given up some of their glut of talent.
