    Default Sounds familiar.....

Today's Star article about re-signing Marvin and the Edge reminds me of a situation with another local franchise....

    "I can" - Jimmy Irsay

"I'm going to re-sign all three of those guys." - Donnie Walsh

Except, Irsay said "I can," not "I'm going to."

How long can Marvin be effective? When did Rice start tapering off? I know Marvin is 32 right now, while edge is 26.

Of course, Running backs start diminishing around 30, so maybe the age factor is even between the two.

IF they can both be signed without bankrupting the Colts financially and talent-wise, then I'm all for it. If not, then sign Marvin and let Edge go. End of story.

We have a 65-75% chance of doing it I think. But it can be done we can give Edge the franchise tag and sign Marvin. But then agian I have no idea how much money we have. The only good thing about Peyton's contract is that it is "cap friendly".I hope we can sign them both.It will be another nervous offseason probably.

It's likely we'll give Edge the franchise tag and re-sign Marvin. But it's also entirely possible Edge will simply retire if he can't get a long-term contract. He's made plenty of noise about retiring young in the past, and I wouldn't blame him. He's young, set for life financially, and will still be able to walk when he's 40......
Yea have you seen any of the old Football players now? They always stumble and can barley walk. That just shows you how ruthless football is.

Its a statistically proven fact that the average career for an NFL running back is less three seasons. Those guys take an absolute beating. I wouldn't be surprised that any of those guys retire "young".

Remember, the NFL has a hard cap. Lack of cap management has been a problem for the Coits before, and if I recall correctly Pollian left the Bills in salary cap hell.

The last thing you want, if you want to win a Superbowl, is for your QB or a handful of offensive stars to take too high of a percentage of your cap. Football has 22 starters, and if there isn't enough wealth to share with the guys on the OL and DL that are at least eqaully valuable (moreso in my opinion) and don't get much recognition, your team isn't going to win playoff games.
Why do the things that we treasure most, slip away in time
Till to the music we grow deaf, to God's beauty blind
Why do the things that connect us slowly pull us apart?
Till we fall away in our own darkness, a stranger to our own hearts
And life itself, rushing over me
Life itself, the wind in black elms,
Life itself in your heart and in your eyes, I can't make it without you
