    Default Indianapolis Ice

Anyone ever go to a Indianapolis Ice game? I have recentely gotten into hockey more and have been wanting to go to one if it's worth it. Is it worth the money? I know it's only a junior hockey league team so I know that may cause it to feel less entertaining.

Totally worth it. Right now there is a coupon for 1/2 off the $18 tix and those are good seats. You can buy $10 tix any time and those are good seats too. Right now, Washington Caps have a kid who played here. Try to get seats near where the players walk out after the game. You won't believe the size of some of these kids. They fight, they score, just like high level hockey. The only thing that isn't at a very high level is the speed. We have a great time every time we go.

    Yes, it's worth the money.

My family knows the Skjodt's pretty well (The family that owns the team) and we've been going to games since the day's of the Racers. These kids play a good brand of hockey, and the league contains numerous NHL draft picks on a consistent annual basis.

We won the Clark Cup back in 2008-2009, and just recently have gotten a nice little series of wins going with a 14-2 record in the past 16 games.

It's definitely worth the money to go check them out if you're halfway new to hockey. There's usually very few fans, so it really does feel like an amateur game. There's frequently NHL and college scouts at the games, and they're usually easy to spot and willing to chat with fans especially at intermissions. The only real downside is just that the PA system at the Coliseum sucks beyond belief, and if you haven't memorized what Kevin Cole is saying simply from going so many times, you'll never understand a thing he says.

Why doesn't Conseco have a hockey team that plays there on a regular basis? If they had a AHL, ECHL or even CHL team I don't know how that couldn't help create cash. I mean the Ft. Wayne Komets average almost 7,000 fans.

My guess is right now, the Ice either can't afford/don't wish to spend the money to rent out Conseco. And they've had a long standing affiliation with the Fairgrounds and the Coliseum.

They play about 2 games a year at Conseco, typically on New Years and usually one other random game.

Also, the Ice typically only play on Friday and Saturday nights, when there happens to be a lot of Pacers games. And obviously the Pacers get priority of the Fieldhouse.

Also if they played at Conseco, we'd have about 1 game a year that would get postponed because of condensation forming on the court...happens all across the league about once per year lol, and with us and our luck, Danny or someone would slip and tear their knee up and that would be the end of that.

Pretty nice performance from the Ice tonight if anybody went.

A 6-5 overtime win that was pretty exciting. They played pretty sloppy but they managed to make a nice little comeback.

The Ice play in Chicago tomorrow night at 8:30 P.M and will return back to Indy on Tuesday to play Muskegon at 7:05 from the Coliseum.

seems like a waste of electricity to keep the ice frozen for maximum of 3 uses a year haha

Me and the GF went to a Toledo Walleye game last night. The visiting team scored 5 goals in only 10 minutes making it 5-0. The Walleye then outscored the opposing team 8-2 to win 8-7. It was nuts.

Glad you had a good time. Sounds like a pretty insane game when you've got 15 goals collectively.

If you're in Indy ever and are looking for something to do, heading up to the Coliseum to see and Ice game certainly would be a good time.

Plan on it. Pacers game/Ice game would be a good day if it's ever scheduled to where that can happen.

Conseco is not designed for Hockey. That is the bottom line.

It can be. You can change from the basketball court to a hockey rink in just a matter of hours.

I've seen crews do it at Conseco for a New Years game back in 09 and it really didn't take all that long.

They do it all over the US.

MSG, United Center, Staples Center, Prudential Center, Air Canada Centre just to name a few.

    Ahh I see.

Still, I think it's fine for hockey if you've ever been. The close off the north side of the fieldhouse to seats, but the other 3 views are all open. Both the lower level and the Club Level are open and I've sat in both for hockey and found the view to be very enjoyable.

Do they keep the ice frozen underneath the court like most places that have regular hockey teams?

For that game, yes. They were playing another game 3 days after and I know they put the court tiles back over the ice surface at that time.

Whether it stays that way at the Fieldhouse, I'm not positive.

Yea I doubt it too considering there's usually only two games there a year.

However, since they were so close together that year, they did lay down the basketball floor over the ice.

I'd be more into hockey if it didn't condone fighting. From a Christian's perspective it just doesn't make sense.
