Default Pacers MVP is Mike Dunleavy?

    http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/201...ngs/index.html

    No. 21
    Indiana Pacers (16-22)
This is a difficult call. Indiana's figurehead star, Danny Granger, is having a bad year; theoretically valuable primarily for his scoring, he is converting a career-low 42.3 percent from the field, his true shooting percentage is below league average and his PER is barely above average. Center Roy Hibbert would have been an obvious choice in early December, but he has endured an extended slump. Let's go with Mike Dunleavy, who leads the Pacers in true shooting percentage and win shares per 48 minutes while having the most positive impact of any Indiana player.
    MVP: Mike Dunleavy
    Runner-up: Roy Hibbert

Who else would it be? Granger and Hibbert have played like ..... horribad. Who else? Besides that.

Per 100 possessions on offense with Dunleavy on the court: 104.8 points
With Dunleavy on the bench: 99.9

That's 4.9 points better with Dunleavy on the court.

Per 100 possessions on defense with Dunleavy on the court: 101.9
With Dunleavy on the bench: 108.4

Our defense is 6.5 points worse with Dunleavy on the bench.

    Just sayin.

this happens when you have people who think they can understand players and the game by only looking at stats as opposed to watching the games.

The writers decision is not based just on stats. He used the stats to back up what he thought

not sure what you mean considering he uses only shooting %, per, true shooting %, win shares per 48 minutes, and +/- to make his case. sounds to me like somebody who enjoys analyzing stats as opposed to watching the games and forming an opinion based on what is taking place on the court.

How many times this year have you thought "Wow, that was a good game by Dun?" Not many.
Welcome to Pacers Digest! New around here? Here are three tips for making the forum a great place to talk about Pacers basketball.

    • Log in. Even if you want to read instead of post, it's helpful because it lets you:
    • Change your signature options. You can hide all signatures by choosing "Settings" (top right) then "General Settings" (middle left) and unchecking the box "Show Signatures" (in the "Thread Display Options" area).
    • Create an ignore list. I know it may seem unneighborly. But you're here to talk about the Pacers, not argue with someone who's just looking for an argument. Most of the regular users on here make use (at least occasionally) of the "Ignore" feature. Just go to "Settings" -> "Edit Ignore List" and add the names.

Sorry, but way to many times have I seen Dun being beat off the dribble 1 on 1. Whether it is Wade or Deshawn Stevenson.

How many times this year have you thought, "Wow, Danny and Roy played awful."? More times than you've said it about Dun.

If I had a really short term memory I would say Collison, but then again there were times when Granger had really great games. I would say Granger is probably the MVP, although he hasn't really earned it. No one else has really stepped into the role to unseat him.

Sounds about right. DC's reinvigoration is what I'm most excited about seeing the rest of the year. I know we all expected a lot out of him, but I feel like a lot of people sometimes forget he's a 2nd year player that's in an almost night and day different offensive approach to not just his last stop in NO, but also his 4 years at UCLA.

Nope. Danny's had a bad year, but not as bad as Dun.

Agree that Roy's been worse lately.

Dun had a really good December after a poor November.

We didn't talk about it..but notice no one was screaming for his head.

You are correct... Granger is the teams MVP thus far, if only by default... He has played rather poorly, but there is no one who really has stepped up their game so far...

It will be a long time before there is Conseco-wide chant of MVP for someone in a Pacers jersey.

Regardless of Danny having a poor year (which is being exaggerated on here), he is still MVP of this team. He's won us games with his play. It hasn't been from a clutch shot, but there are certainly games where he has played excellent and led us to the win. Hell lets look at the stats.

    Granger:
    21.2 ppg (shooting 42.3%, 38.5% from 3) 5.5 rpg, 2.8apg, 1.2 spg, .95bpg, 2.7topg

    Dunleavy:
    11.4 ppg (shooting 43.4% 35.7% from 3), 5.3 rpg, 1.8 apg, .68 apg, .65 bpg, 1.1 topg

Yeah, Dunleavy is definitely the MVP of this team...

Everyone on the team has been inconsistent. Hibbert was great through November, as was Granger. Dunleavy had a pretty good December. And Collison is definitely playing the best this month. But overall its Danny. No one on the team has stepped up and played at Danny's level. Sure he is having a down year, but his down year is still better than anything else his teammates are doing.

Defenses aren't keying in to stop Mike Dunleavy, I'll tell you that much.

I don't think Dunleavy is the MVP of our team, but he might be the "least disappointing" of the main contributors. Granger has had a bad year, but he's still the MVP of this team. Roy's season has quickly turned miserable. Darren hasn't really disappointed me that much, as I still blame the system for his relatively disappointing numbers.

Certainly I don't think Dun has had a "bad" year. He's been our most consistent player for most of the year.
