That the Pacers and Pistons will meet in the second round, and the winner will face Miami in the ECF? With the new seeding system, it seems almost inevitable.

And if so, does that make the regular season a little less exciting for you?

Not for me; I love watching the regular season. Plus this year I'm getting NBA League Pass so I have a whole lot more to look forward too.

    I agree.

And the regular season generally doesn't excite me... but it does take me 82 games to get into "playoff shape".

The way I look at it is that we have to run through Miami and Det sometime and the right attitude for a championship-caliber team isn't worrying about matchups or who you face, but rather bring it on

I really hope that either this season or next, the NBA wises up and reseeds after the first round.

I think they'll announce it before the end of THIS season.

They changed the first round from a 5-game format to a 7-game format somewhere late-season. Changing the playoffs re-seeding won't be difficult.

Besides, it doesn't make financial sense for the conference's best matchup to be in round 2.....

Actually Kstat, i think that it would help the NBA if the best matchup was in the second round. It'll generate a lot of interest. Then the winner gets to play shaq. I think it would be good for the league. :conspiracy theorist:

It'll generate more interest if the matchup was prime time every night, which is where the ECF will be this year.

Shaq is a nice novelty, but he wouldnt generate more interest than a rematch of last year's ECF.

I don't know, you know as well as I do that the Pacers/Pistons style of ball is only appreciated/liked in our cities and San Antonio Everyone else would probably rather see Wade and Shaq.

I can't. It seems very abnormal. It's admittedly very ugly basketball.

    I disagree.

Pacers & Pistons might meet in round two but Miami won't be there for the winner.

Who's going to beat them in one of the first two rounds? The Knicks? Cleveland?

Washington? I've got to see that.

If the three division winners win thier first round matchups, then why do you all think re-seeding will make any difference?

Why have divisions and a division championship if you're going to re-seed after Round #1? Just go back to having two conferences.

    Yes.

I think Washington can win that division.

With Atlanta, Charlotte & Orlando it is by far the weakest division in the league. Until Shaq proves, on the court, that he can play more than 67 games a season I'm not that worried about the Heat.

I think the Wiz are more balanced than last season & much more talented than Miami. True, the Heat have a more dominate center, but over all, Washington has a better over all team.

However if Miami doesn't win their division they would most likely finish 5th & be the Pacers first round foe.

...because it prevents the possibility of the conference's two best records meeting in round two,

The NHL has this kind of system. and it's worked very well. The NBA hasn't needed to, but it does now.

Unless Miami are plagued by injuries then I cant seem them losing their division. There isn't much else to beat them, I'd like to see Washington do it but lack of playoff experience will probbly bring them down even if they gel during the season.

Everyone knew it was going to be a Pistons Pacers ECF last season from well early on, but that didn't diminish 61 games of success.

That shows you how the power has shifted East.Beacause now no one wants to watch the West(At least the average fan)Also TNT saw how last years ECF was a bloody war.Becuase the East is the only conference that plays D.The Pacers,Pistons,Spurs(Maybe Heat) are the intimidating teams now.

Um, I think it was in the contract signed a few years ago that TNT and ESPN would rotate conferences every year.

How many good series has ESPN carried (I don't usually remember who carries what series over the years so this is actually a question and not a smart remark)? Just being the best ESPN series doesn't necessarily mean it was widely watched. Though Detroit teams usually pull good (though not NY or LA type) numbers. How do Indiana teams pull in terms of general viewership for playoff teams? If both areas usually follow their teams strongly (in terms of ratings) then its not incredible to see a good rating for the ECF even if the nation as a whole generally ignored it.

I do like the NHL system (though I don't know if you can say anything they do is "successful" right now) as who you play in the next round is less set in stone than with the NBA and so there are often times I have watched the end of playoff series that I would otherwise be uninterested in just to root for a better match-up or a more exciting next round. But even there the two best conference teams don't always meet up in the CF. Reseeding only guarantees that the two teams with the best record won't meet till the finals (if they both get there).

I would also agree that TNT's lack of carrying the Eastern Conference at all said something about the conference last year but I wouldn't say that their carrying the ECF this year means the East is the more powerful or even the more popular conference. Fans of west teams still look down on the East as there are only 3 teams anyone cares about in the East. Right now there are just more interesting stories in the West and more teams with a shot at upsetting one of the conference powers.
