Let me start off by saying that I don't hate Granger; He's been one of my favorites for the longest time. But it's time to get some good pieces out of him before it's too late. He still has rep of an elite scorer. I don't think any of these offers are ludicrous in our favor, but they might be becuase I'm selling high on Granger.
The problem with him is that he is one-dimensional, doesn't like to play defense, takes bad shots, he's lacks smoothness and ability to get seperation which will kill him in the Playoffs, and he is put in a bad position with us. He is a very good 2nd, 3rd scorer and impatient teams would be happy to acquire him as well as teams trying to get over the hump. How are these deals?
Derrick Favors (star potential)
Anthony Morrow (an okay replacement)
Damion James (somewhat decent prospect)
Jordan Farmar (very good backup point)
1st round pick (Lotto protected)
Okay, we get Derrick Favors who will be the best defensive power forward in the league who is also 19 years old with some touch, we get one of the best backup point guards in the league with championship experience, we get a solid young replacement for Danny for the time being in Anthony Morrow, and we also get a first round pick lottery protected.
New Jersey gets a big three and they're very impatient. If Melo never goes through they'll bite for one of these second tier guys. Harris, Lopez, and Granger is somewhat decent. Their owner wants to win now and they don't want to wait for Favors to get his groove.
Nicholas Batum (star potential)
Wes Mathews (hell of a player and he's young)
Armon Johnson (very good future backup point)
Luke Babbitt (he's adequate, I guess. I expected more out of him but his rotation is deep.)
2nd round pick
We get two very good prospects in Wes and Batum as well as a very good backup point that Seth really likes. We also get Luke Babbitt who could be a contributor someday.. If not he's a good trading chip. (cut Solo and Foster I guess.)
If Portland has hopes of getting Roy and Oden healthy again than Dre/Granger/Roy/Lamarcus/Oden is a hell of a lineup. They'd actually use Granger right.
Mo Pete (cut)
Royal Ivey (cut)
1st round pick
For one, we cut HUGE salary. For two, we get Jeff Green, Serge Ibaka, and a first (cut Mo Pete and Royal Ivey for roster spots). Serge Ibaka is going to be a very good player and Jeff Green already is.
OKC does this because they get another top 25 player in the league and Danny can be a third option where he can really, really excel. This trade puts them over the top and makes them favorites in the west. Slide either Granger or Durant to the two. They add James Posey who is undoubtedly a bad contract but he brings things to the table, and they get an adequate starting forward in Josh. They can use the MLE in the offseason to sign a starting power forward in Kenyon Martin and hopefully for them Cole Aldrich is ready to produce next season. Then they have:
Sounds pretty good to me. What do you guys think?
