Default Have any of you attempted to change the coach of this team?

I was just wondering with seeing everyone say they should fire JOB...How many people from PD have tried in some way to contact the organization about how we as fans feel..and if so who did you talk to or write to,and was there a response

As P4E said above, I'm pretty sure the management doesn't give 2 s***s about us fans and our opinions of what we think should/shouldn't be done.

I would have to think the organization knows very well what our thoughts on the coach are. I know they have people monitor this board, and it's pretty hard to miss the Obie hate around here.

Management cares about your money. Send them a note telling them what you want in order to attend games, watch the team on TV (ratings matter) and spend your time and money supporting the Pacers. It takes about two minutes and if enough people do it, maybe the powers that be will at least notice.

I just used this to send them a short note saying that that a portion of fans want him fired, in not so many words. Or more, rather. Regardless, someone might see it. Who knows?

Our arena, their arena, Rucker park, it just doesn't matter. We're bigger, longer, younger, faster, and hungrier.

I doubt they would care if i wrote a note saying JOB makes basketball unwatchable. I refuse to renew my season tickets unless he plays the young guys and plays rotations that give us the best chance to win. I am just one person they problly would not care to much.

I have had three different sales reps attempt to lure me back to being a season ticket holder during the past year, including the start of this season, especially after the pretty decent start. I told each of those reps that a primary concern for me is that I don't want to feel as if I am wasting my money on what I continue to believe is a team that lacks a coach who teaches the actual fundamentals of the game and builds on the strengths of its players.

They then have each asked why I, as a long term season ticket holder (10 consecutive years, the last 7 of which were full seasons) who seems to follow the franchise and how it is playing, won't buy tickets, and I replied that it is difficult to be enthusiastic with O'Brien as coach. Ultimately, one had the guts to ask me if I would consider buying any tickets as long as O'Brien is coach and I said that I would probably take advantage of deep discounts like most are for a chosen few games, but that no, I would not purchase season tickets at a higher price as long as he is coach.

I cannot imagine that I am the only person to have done this, so I question how much they actually care about fan opinion, despite the fact ultimately the product is for the fans. They care far more about the advertisers and corporate accounts that have poor attendance in their seats (same revenue, less support staff and wear and tear due to less attendance) than they do about the average true basketball fan who just wants to see the best basketball league in the best arena played in an enjoyable competitive fashion that doesn't offend their sensibilities due to the predictable nature of outcomes as a result of the same tired gimmicks being regularly trotted out by O'Brien despite the continuous lack of success that he has had as a coach here.

To be honest, I hope the organization cares that the fans are happy, but I would really prefer that they don't use us as a resource to make significant personnel decisions.

I thought about getting a custom jersey with "Fire O'Brien" on the back.
    1. I don't know if they would let me.
    2. I can spend 85 dollars on a lot of other things.

Nope, it was one of those corporate sponsors that wanted Stephen Jackson gone, and forced the hand of TPTB.

Apparently those same sponsors are happy with Jim O'Brien b/c he's not attending strip clubs and shooting guns in public..... any one have a bachelor party coming up?

I am probably not understanding your point. But the mess started long before we got Dunleavy and Murphy

My ticket rep told me my tickets for Friday would be waiting at will call. I asked her if our new coach would be waiting on the sidelines as well? She replied by saying that she "hears that all the time." So, it's not like the ticket sales dept. aren't aware of the dislike for OB.

    That is hilarious.

My suggestion would be for who our new coach is... Bill Laimbeer. I am going to beat this drum until either the head breaks and I have to replace it so I can continue beating it or we hire someone else!

Yeah I called my ticket rep to, he said same thing. And sent them an email. Also the pacers fan forum is full of people saying to fire him, and they run that.

even if the corporate sponsor thing is true, the sponsor was acting on behalf of the fans--or at least what the sponsor thought the fans wanted...

that is, the sponsor (allegedly) did not want to be associated with player(s) the fans (presumably) wanted gone...

    It's true, from my understanding.

I don't necessarily agree they did it to appease the fans. No, I think they did it because either they, personally, were turned off by what was going on, and/or they were worried about their business consumers turning on them for supporting the franchise at the time.

No chance. Larry and Laimbeer still hate each other...

Besides, we gave another ex-Piston a shot at coaching a few years ago, and that didn't work out so well...

The Sjax problem reached a point where they HAD to do something or Conseco was going to be empty. But, listening to the fans or a sponsor wasn't the problem... Waiting so long to address the issue with Sjax was the problem IMHO... and then compounded by the deal they finally did. You can be too patient.

I HATE Bill Laimbeer! Even my saintly grandmother didn't like him. That being said, he's a good coach and the Pacers would be smart to hire him.

Back when the Pacers did that "Ask a question" thing on Pacers.com where you can submit questions to be answered by players and/or the coaches by video, I submitted one to a couple players about something along the lines of how do they put up with having such a poor coach blah blah blah, and I also asked one to Jim O'Brien about if he had a brain, if he knew how to even coach, why he was such an idiot at coaching, blah blah blah, but it was all obviously never answered unfortunately lol.
