Default New York Jets at Indianapolis - Wild Card Weekend - 1/8/11

(11-5) After getting bounced from the playoffs last year in the AFC Championship game, against the Colts, the Jets look for some revenge and coach Rex Ryan says this game is "personal."

(10-6) By winning the AFC South, the Colts tied an NFL record for making the playoffs 9 consecutive years. Although being injury-plagued this season, the Colts as of late have been protecting the ball better and have managed to gain positive yards on the ground. Can they stop a hungry and confident Jets team?

I think it will be a blowout one way or the other. Either the Jets come to play and outmatch the Colts, or the Colts put them down early and the Jets talent collection experiment implodes on itself. I think it would be fun to watch a complete meltdown of that team. I don't think it's likely to happen, but it would be fun.

Oh how I would love for the Colts to come out like the Pats did against the Jets and smash them 45-3....but its gonna be a close one hopefully with Rex Ryans foot in his mouth after the game.

It really is a shame Collie had to get hurt so much.

But I'm grateful that we qualified for the playoffs. Anything can happen.

Hoping the home field gives us a jump start and then we catch fire...but keeping my expectations in check so as not to be disappointed. Jets will be a tall order, let alone anything beyond that.

One of the positives I keep looking at is the Colts were in this situation the year they won the Super Bowl.

They had to fight until the end to make the playoffs. Had a really hard time stopping the run early in the year and than started figuring it out at the end of the season.

I believe the Colts were even the #3 seed. They won and beat the #2 seed on the road, and than got a home game b/c the #1 seed was knocked off.

Even the Bears have a bye again.

Obviously this isn't the same team. More injuries with Clark, Gonzo, Collie. Bob Sanders isn't coming back. The Jets aren't the Chiefs.

    We'll see what happens though

I like the Colts in this game. I like Peyton, especially at home, against a overrated Jets defense this year. When its a playoff game and one team has Peyton Manning and the other has Mark Sanchez its pretty much a no brainer. A lot of people will over think that, but thats what it comes down to for me.

It's just not in the stars this year. I do take comfort in the knowledge that Jack Del Rio and the Jags are once again sitting at home. What the heck, put the Texans in that category to since they were cocky to begin the season.

As a fan of the NFL as well as the Colts, I would also be more excited as a NFL fan for a Colts/Steelers match-up over another Jets/Patriots match-up

I dreamed last night that the Colts won this game 49-0. Not joking, I really did have that dream. I don't know what's worse, dreaming about the Colts, or dreaming that their D pitched a shutout.

    Well done, Colts.

Let's hope some major issues are seriously addressed this offseason.

The Colts reverted back to everything opposite of what they did to win the 4 straight games: bad special teams, not stopping the run, can't run the ball. I didn't like that timeout at the end either. They really need to get healthy next season.....too many guys are out and I'm not gonna name the names.

I just hope the Colts don't use the injury excuse to explain away this season and not address the historical problem of stopping the run.

I just hope Manning's negotiations involve pressing for defensive changes that will get the other team off the field instead of the largest contract in the history of the NFL or bolting to another team.
Nuntius was right. I was wrong. Frank Vogel has retained his job.

    Tale of two halves.

D really floundered in the second. Offense, although not with a lot of opportunities, couldn't convert one of the three scoring drives to a TD.

Again, I know they don't grow on trees, but one guy up the middle the wreaks havoc against the run, preferably a DT, and upgrades at the corners. If the latter happens, then hopefully we could play tighter on the WRs at the LOS.

I know Revis is not walking through that door anytime soon, but just look how much of a difference it made that he single handedly took Wayne out of our offense.

Did not like the decision on the next to last last FG drive to run on 3rd and long on the last series before we kicked it. Yes, we'd had some success running on that drive, but I think they had us set up...thinking we could go to the well one more time. Have to be aggressive there. You really need seven, not three.

Edit: Pass rush completely evaporated over the course of the game even though we blitzed some in the second half. Isn't that supposedly one of our strong suits?

Don't worry Polian already blamed ST of course the playoffs is where coaching and personnel actually make a difference.

I'll probably stay away from sports coverage for the next few days I don't need to hear how Manning "blew" this one.

Yeah real comfort we had homefield and we couldn't even defend it.

Even the 7-9 Seahawks were better how sad is that.

You might want to rethink that. Although I give the Jets FO credit they took risks and got guys that probably weren't a good idea to get like Cromartie and Tomlinson and made it work for them.

Maybe we need to start questioning Polian. True, he has a system for evaluating talent and he quite often picks a really good player out of nowhere, but as mentioned before, Cromartie & LT really helped the Jets last nite (and over the season). Taking a chance on free agents is just something the Colts don't do. Rhodes has been a great addition to the team, but name another FA pickup that they've made that has made an impact. (No, not Blair White. I'm talking about IMPACT players).

Add into that whole concept that Caldwell is simply a puppet for Polian and maybe more of the faults of this team lie in the front office instead of on the field.

They eventually got fed up with him in Buffalo & Carolina, so I just wonder what might be going on here.

I think Polian and Caldwell can GTFO at this point however the only way Irsay would boot both of them out is if Manning demands it. As much of a space cadet as Irsay is even he won't let his meal ticket(Manning) get away that easily.
