NFL Superstar in $400,000 War with Babyface's Ex
12/30/2010 5:40 PM PST by TMZ Staff

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Indianapolis Colts superstar Dwight Freeney -- one of the most dominant defensive players in the NFL -- has been hit with a $400,000 lawsuit for allegedly flaking on the rent for his recording studio.

According to the lawsuit, obtained by TMZ, Freeney -- who runs a record label -- agreed to pay $37,500 per month to rent out two floors in the famous Edmonds Tower building in Hollywood ... where Britney Spears has been known to cavort.

The tower is owned by Tracey Edmonds -- who was formally married to legendary music producer Babyface.

Freeney allegedly signed a one-year lease back in July and paid the first month's rent -- but hasn't paid a dime since.

The landlord is pissed -- claiming it could have leased the place out to other tenants -- but they were "induced" into sticking with Freeney because of his "financial stability through his career as a star NFL player."

The landlord wants $422,150 to make things right.

NFL Star Fighting 'Jambalaya of False Accusations'
1/7/2011 12:30 AM PST by TMZ Staff

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Indianapolis Colts superstar Dwight Freeney is firing back at allegations he stiffed a famous L.A recording studio out of $400,000 in rent -- with his attorney calling the lawsuit a "jambalaya of false accusations."

TMZ obtained a scathing letter sent by Freeney's attorney, Peter A. Gonzalez, to the owner of the famous Edmonds Tower building -- Tracey Edmonds ... who was once married to the music producer Babyface.

In the document, Team Freeney compares the lawsuit to a "Mexican soap opera" -- because the allegations against NFL star are "pure fiction."

Freeney's lawyer then proceeds to lay down the hammer -- calling the complaint a "jambalaya of false accusations, disorganized misrepresentations and legally insufficient claims" ... noting, "Mr. Freeney is not personally a party to any agreement with Plaintiff."

NFL Star -- Six-Figure Settlement with Babyface's Ex
3/31/2011 4:41 PM PDT by TMZ Staff

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Indianapolis Colts superstar Dwight Freeney just reached a SIX-FIGURE settlement with his landlord -- who also happens to be the ex-wife of legendary music producer Babyface.

It all started back in December, when Freeney's landlord Tracey Edmonds -- who also dated Eddie Murphy -- filed a $400,000 lawsuit against him, claiming Freeney bilked her out of 11 months rent ... on two floors in her famous Edmonds Tower building in Hollywood.

According to the lawsuit, Freeney agreed to pay $37,500 per month for the space -- which he used for his recording studio -- but failed to pay more than one installment.

Now, it's all water under the bridge -- Tracey's lawyer Trent Copeland negotiated a comfortable six-figure settlement ... and that's that.

Copeland tells TMZ, "A six-figure settlement has resolved the dispute. Tracy feels completely vindicated. Money has been paid."
