    http://www.wfaa.com/home/Police-Son-...112671484.html

DALLAS — Nickey Van Exel, son of former Dallas Mavericks player Nick Van Exel, was arrested Wednesday night in connection with a recent murder.

Bradley Bassey Eyo was found shot to death near Lake Ray Hubbard the day after Christmas. Investigators determined he was murdered at a Garland home in the 6900 block of George Brown Drive and his body later dumped at the lake, less than a mile away.

Police said 20-year-old Nickey Van Exel turned himself in Wednesday and confessed to the crime. He's a neighbor of the victim.

He is being held at the Lew Sterrett Justice Center on $1 million bond.

The senior Van Exel played for the Mavericks from 2001-2003. He finished his NBA career with the San Antonio Spurs in 2006.

I feel for Nick Van Exel and his whole family.

But Nickey? That's an awfully strange name for a guy. I apologize ahead of time if anyone here is named Nickey/knows a guy named Nickey...

Is it? Nickey is probably a nickname for "Nick"

Usually spelled Nicky but with an E

Well considering the article doesn't say Nickey is a nickname, I'll assume that's his real name.

And there's nothing wrong with it. I've just never really heard a guy named Nickey before, but that could just be me.

The always reliable Wikipedia lists Nick's full first-name as Nickey, too.

I had forgotten about Nick Van Exel. Good player in his day. Sorry to hear about this though.

It's the son of a well-known former NBA player. That's good enough.

It's off topic, but it's better than the same ol Fire JOB posts. That's just nuts though, sad to hear.

When it comes to offspring, nothing will surprise me with NBA players.

I'm not sure. She worked for several years at Allison's I believe and if you remember she was living in that hell hole known as Port o Call apartments off of Rockville road when she was shot several times in a robbery attempt a few years back while Nick was still in the league. The really sad part about that (other than her living in filth while her son is a baller in the Association) was she was moving within a month to a house she had been building in a, new at that time, neighborhood across the street from Ben Davis High School. I know she eventually recovered and last I heard (a year or two ago) she was still living in that house.

I forgot she lives here but I seem to recall her choosing to live there(although I don't know why if that's the case)

Nick was always being rumored as coming to the Pacers. Supposedly because of his tie to his mother. I don't think it ever came close but he was frequently seen in Indy.

Well he claims they were 'horse playing' with a shotgun, and he didn't know it was loaded.

They said the kid who was shot was like part of the family, and they were very good friends. Then he panicked and hid the body.

If that's true, first of all it's incredibly stupid. Second ... I can't imagine how the kid feels. I can't imagine accidentally killing anyone in that manner, but seeing it happen to your best friend? This kid is going to be all kinds of messed up by the time he gets out of prison (if he does). He'll see more things in prison that will mess him up. A buddy of mine was beaten over the head with a sock filled with padlocks because he refused to join a particular gang.

    Messed up.
