Default OJ Mayo on the move? Possibly to the Knicks

    http://www.theknicksblog.com/2010/12...d-in-o-j-mayo/
By Myles A. Mills on Dec 11, 2010, 11:58 am

In a separate matter, Memphis Grizzles guard O.J. Mayo could be on the move soon, and a source close to his family thinks he could end up with the Knicks.

“They’re gonna move him next week and I think he’s gonna end up in New York,” the source said.

D’Antoni appears to have lost faith in shooting guards Andy Rautins and Kelenna Azubuike. Rautins is completely out of the mix and D’Antoni has said he doesn’t think Azubuike has recovered sufficiently from his knee surgery to contribute.

Still, a second source close to the Knicks said he thought the Mayo acquisition was unlikely.

“I don’t think we’re gonna get him,” the second source said. “We’re playing so good, you really don’t want to mess with it. You don’t want to tinker with it too much.
Moreso than Mayo I would like to see if we can get Randolph from the Knicks. He doesnt play in NY so maybe we can get him on the cheap. He sure the heck excites me more than Earl Clark

I won't be surprised to see some trades here starting tomorrow.

Maybe there won't be any. But I think there will be within the next week or so since tomorrow FA's can be packaged

Yeah, the new CBA will set teams' roster sizes based on their Standard Metropolitan Statistical Area size.

Memphis will have to play with 4 men and a ballboy.

There was a speculation by Sheridan yesterday that Knicks might bring in Mayo and trade him to Denver for Melo - since Denver would prefer a marketable young piece in any Melo trade.

    that makes some sense

especially if Denver prefers Mayo to Randolph, and if Memphis prefers Randolph to Mayo

Yep...the Knicks are dangling their 2018 1st round draft picks now. Seriously, what assets to the Knicks have that could net them these type of players?

This is David West, he is the Honey Badger, West just doesn't give a *****....he's pretty bad *ss cuz he has no regard for any other Player or Team whatsoever.

Agreed. He'd be a major upgrade over Rush.

His stock is low right now and Memphis seems so desperate that I bet he could be had for relatively cheap.

I don't know what pieces the Knicks have that the Grizzlies would want... then again, we are talking about the Grizzlies.

Would anyone here be opposed to a trade such as Rush/Solo/future 1st for Mayo? I think that would get the deal done and honestly, that would make the future pick less valuable to us since I think getting him definitely puts us in the playoffs.

Wouldn't there have to be a good reason for his stock to be so low?

Maybe he misses the California sun (and bikinis) or his pay rate in the NBA is less than at USC.

Sorry, I was never that hopped up about Mayo. Great clinic. Good sandwich spread. But not the basketball player.

I was thinking about the Mayo for Love trade last week, and how people thought Memphis took Minnie in that trade. Yep, a 20/15 guy in Love for a rotational player in Mayo. Who is laughing now at Minnie!?!?

idk if i'd consider mayo a rotational player. even with the decreased production this year he's still averaging over 17ppg in his 3 year career. i'd also argue he's contributed more to the grizzlies success over the past 3 years than love has with minnesota.

I'm happy with our SG position. Brandon's done very well.

    That's not a problem anymore.

Mayo has a shady past and can't play defense to save his life.

    Pass.

I don't recall the shady past part, but I thought I'd heard he didn't play D. If both are true, I'd probably pass as well.

Would absolutely love to trade for Anthony Randolph. I am surprised he isn't playing at all for the Knicks. He is worth Rush/Expiring/and a future 1st round draft pick. He compliments Roy perfectly

    Wow......that's overpaying. BRush+1st+Expiring is what I'd send for a Granger-Level Player.

Send a prospect like BRush ( or PG ) or a 1st round pick for Randolph....okay...I can go for that....but both? No way.

Randolph has potential....but he's only worth it as a "Low Cost/High Reward" Player. Giving away too much assets is not worth it.

I started out thinking this, but now I'm not sure. Current nice piece, cap flexibility, and future nice piece for a questionable piece.

Rush alone is making more than Randolph btw.

Not sure what Shade is referring to either. The ref bumping incident in high school? The Tim Floyd/USC scandal?

As for the other point, it's not that he's incapable of playing defense but that he'd be better defending the opposing point guard than the SG. If he could be in the backcourt with a playmaker capable of defending bigger guards that would be a nice set up (Tyreke Evans is inconsistent on the defensive end but in theory he'd be a good example).

Mayo would be interesting next to Joe Johnson or Manu if you felt comfortable with those guys taking over ball-handling duties. Might be good in Miami if his 3P% continues to be strong despite a less featured offensive role. Possibly even OKC if you feel Westbrook could adequately defend taller guards.

A Collison/Mayo backcourt would be turribul.

If you think that Rush/Expiring/ and future first is too much then just do Rush/ Future 1st or Expiring/Future 1st, and maybe make the future first a protected first. The fact that Randolph isn't playing at all should make this trade possible. Randolph could come in and arguably fight to start right away

How do you figure Randolph is worth anything especially all that? He is unproven, skinny, weak, and cant find the floor on a Knicks team that lacks front court depth. Turiaf and slow @** Mozgov have found almost triple the PT each that he has. He is also clueless on offense and lacks effort and heart which both have been huge question marks on him since he was drafted.

Randolph makes just under 2M so what expiring are you talking about? Solo? I might do that deal. Rush for Randolph straight up works but I wouldn't even do that and I definitely would not give up a first round pick on something as unproven as Randolph with so many rough edges and question marks. No thanks.
