    Default A question about Danny?

How come Danny never finishes with authority!? He always just seems to lay it up. I mean the guy is 6'9 and never dunks. Just curious to know. What do you guys think?

I've sometimes wondered why he doesn't throw it down more often myself. Sometimes I think he's simply not high enough off the ground, but there are sometimes when it seems like he could if he wanted to, but he chooses not to.

He's just not that kind of player. There was an article a few years back on hoopshype that talked about how he's more of an oldschool player and how he's going to outlast all the really explosive guys out there because of the way he plays.

I always thought that it was a lack of hops. It is pretty hard to dunk in a half-court set if you don't have superb hops.

I think danny is just a smart player. A guy plowing through the lane to throw it down may get the the team pumped and crowed on their feet but the chances of getting hurt are far greater then just getting the contact and laying the ball up of the glass and getting the and one. How many times you see dwayne wade on the floor and if I was a heat fan everytime the guy explodes to the rim when there is a guy like hibbert, horford, shaq, howard, or someone like that I would be scared of him getting hurt and the season being down the drain. Just my person input.

Yea but if your 6'9 with the wingspan Danny has it isnt hard to throw it down. I saw one in the Miami game where he barely even jumped and easily threw it down.I understand everyones point, and i'd rather him keep doing what hes doing then him risk injury!

    Definitely agree

Danny is interesting because he plays so controlled. I think he'll probably be pretty good offensively far longer then most players simply because he plays like an old man already.

As Adrian Dantley once told Karl Malone whether it's a layup or a dunk it's still two points.

The simple answer is, he has below answer athleticism for an NBA player at his position.

But honestly, it isn't a big deal. That hasn't ever been a part of his game so he's found ways to be effective in spite of his limited athleticism. He's got great size and length, and is a great shooter. That more than makes up for it.

I don't think he has below average athletisicm for an NBA player at his position. I have seen some of his highlights wherein he jumps higher for a putback dunk, can dunk the ball hard at fastbreak, and skies high for a block. It's just that he's not freakishly athletic ala LeBron, Wade, Kobe, etc.

In spite of him not really making some dunks for highlight reels, his effective shooting from inside to outside are what make him a great offensive threat. Anyway, great scorers can score beyond dunks and highlight-worthy acrobatics. Plus, that's the main reason why he can put up 20 pts even with foot injury. He doesn't rely too much on athleticism to save his game.

Yep, guys get there hands beat to he!! slamming all the time. Jammed and split fingers and bone bruises. Back when we used to mess around on lower rims I was amazed at how often it hurt to dunk.

Nothing wrong with appreciating a pretty finger roll as long as it drops.

I think Danny saves his dunks. He had a great, emphatic throw down on a fastbreak after turnover against the Heat. He made a nice step around Lebron and threw it down one handed. And it really set a momentum tone for the rest of the team as Danny sort of stepped on the Heat's neck with that play.

I don't think this is a problem. Danny does more than enough to score and contribute to this team.

He may not throw it down, but he's good with driving and shooting.

He's gotten to the free throw line more now than he did earlier this season.

Whats the point in throwing it down? It is two points no matter what. I like how he doesn't dunk it. His hands and knees will last a lot longer. He won't have the impact on his knees and hands he would of if he dunked it.

Danny has missed less games than; LeBron, Melo, and Wade. So I'm happy with the layups.

Don't ever compare anyone to Reggie. There will never be anyone like him.

Anyway his game doesn't resemble Reggie's at all.

DG is the last guy on this team that needs to improve his game.

He scores 20+ and he improved his defense a lot.

It doesn't matter whether he dunks or shoots in traffic, it still results in 2 points.

Did I Lie? Reggie Rarely Dunked. Fact.

Ray Allen Is Just Like Reggie. Maybe A Little More Skilled Off The Dribble Tho.

Danny Is A Much Larger Player Than Reggie But His Game Is Similar To Reggie. His Main Offensive Weapon Is Coming Off Of Screens And Knocking Down The Tre'. When Have You Ever Seen Reggie Use A Cross Over? How Often Does Danny Use One? How Often Did Reggie Post Up, Rarely If Ever. Same With Danny.
Oh Yeah, He's Also Our Best Player, A Good Guy and The Face Of The Franchise. Lots Of Similarities There.

I Love Reggie As Much As The Next Pacer Fan But C'mon, Dial Back The Emotion.

I think too many took this as a diss on Danny. It was just a question as to why, not an insult that implies he should.

The times when Danny does dunk, its always a soft dunk....kinda like Jalen Rose when he dunked.

Thats funny you said that because of the fact that I was just reading an article on the top 25 leapers in the league and granger was on it. And they also brought out the fact that he does it to conserve energy for more offense or defense.
