See, that's what I figured. When I played the demo, it was WAY too easy to pass cars at Indy, even on the hardest difficulty, the cars were too easy to handle in the turns, and traveled too fast in general.

I remember seeing in a lot of the old pictures that they had like 3 Gordon's, 2 Hamlin's, and 3 Junior's. Sucks to see they failed at the NASCAR portion.

I'll still keep playing my Papyrus NASCAR 2003 Season until NASCAR 2011 comes out and I play a demo.

    They didn't fail at all...

The NASCAR portion was never going to be fully fleshed out.

It was shoved in there at the last second to appease the masses and hopefully sell a few copies to the guy who wears his Jeff Gordon hat and t-shirt every where.

It was a smart business decision and nothing else.

I don't think it was "rushed" or a "last-minute" decision. The creator said all along that he wanted NASCAR in the game due to the high fascination Japan had in it as well as it's North America's premiere autosport.

I was under the impression that we were going to get Fontana, Watkins Glen, and maybe a few short tracks within the game. I knew that there wasn't going to be all the drivers, but enough to fill a 16-car grid.

That and I am not sure they will update the cars for the 2011 season, the paint schemes or the front end of the cars.

Along with the fact that DuPont won't even be Jeff's full-time sponsor next season...

Oh man, the mods for that game are sick. I've been playing that game for well...years.

When you're building a game for 5 years and the issue comes up with what a year or so to go? It's a last second decision.

They announced that NASCAR would be in the game last year. They were working on it all along. My source at IMS said that Polyphony was there in 2008 getting the specs for the track and everything.

Now up until about September I heard that they were still using the wing in the game.

For a game that has always prided itself on simulation and real-life handling and performance of the cars, the fact that the NASCARs don't drive like real NASCARs would be considered a "failure" in my book.

And most NASCAR fan's book, for that matter.

And Duke, you are so right. NR2003 is still probably the best racing game ever made. The mods are SICK. Papyrus definitely knew how to make a good NASCAR game. I can only hope the new 2001 from Activision can be at least half as good as that game.
