Default Has anyone bought/rented Gran Turismo 5 yet?

I've watched a ton of videos, and read a ton of reviews.

Has anyone purchased it yet? I want to get it for NASCAR and racing those cars along with whatever I want at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. I'm sure I will race at other locations, etc.

I want to know how well the game feels, and how well it represents NASCAR and IMS.

The reason I ask is because NASCAR the Game 2011 comes out in February, and I really want to get that, so buying GT5 could be a waste of money.

    Thanks,

    dd

The general consensus I'm getting is that it's very good, but not an epic. I've played the NASCAR version at the Brickyard. It was fun, but you can tell that part was not designed by a team dedicated to making a NASCAR game. The cars travel too fast, turn far too easily, and have unrealistic damage. And that was with every assist turned off.

I've got it reserved...haven't picked it up yet for some reason, been playing Black Ops on 360 I guess...

Interested to see how it compares to Forza 3.

I don't really want it for career mode. I want to race at Indy in stock cars. Maybe some other cars, but I don't really want to wait for NASCAR the Game to come out in February.

Plus I really hate playing my PS3. I want my Live achievements for playing games.

    Thanks for your input, guys.

I could bring it back next Friday's game? That would be awesome! I have MGS4 or Heavenly Sword if you haven't played those yet and would want to.

I bought it on the day it came out and I really like it. I think a lot of the flak its getting is kinda unjust. Its an amazing driving simulator and the NASCAR racing in it is pretty sweet. Feels like a stock car should, in a video game at least.

And I love playing my PS3.

No offense, but how is a stock car supposed to feel? I heard that they feel just about like any other car in the game.

Thanks for your review though. I might buy it tonight while I'm out.

No way do they feel like other cars in the game. Just the way it accelerates and handles. Also it keeps it speed up better than other cars.

So I got the game, I don't know if it's better than Forza. They are both just so...different. It's pretty incredible how you can have two games from the exact same genre both trying to be driving sims be so different.

Not a bad thing, not sure which I'm going to like better. Gran Turismo 3 was one of my favorite games of all time, but I could never get into Gran Turismo 4, this one seems closer to 3 right now IMO.

pacer4ever graciously let me borrow his copy. I played it last night. I really hated waiting for it to install for over an hour.

I wanted it primarily for NASCAR, like I said earlier. I put the difficulty on hard, but the cars were extremely easy to pass in the turns. Drafting is basically non-existent, and it just doesn't feel like I have too much control over those cars. I can't change wedge, camber, track bar, etc.

After I won a race, it took me back to the main screen. "This is it?" Not even a congratulations for winning a race or anything. I felt empty inside after that.

Still, going through the main game mode will take more time than I have with the game in my possession, so I can't really give a detailed review.

I will say the graphics are dandy, and IMS looks spectacular.

I haven't even touched NASCAR...Can you get into it via career mode? Is it under Spec-A somewhere?

I don't think I'll use it very often anyway, as I'd rather race on the road courses, but I didn't even see where you could select it.

I know in the main mode you can purchase the NASCAR Cup cars from a dealership. I tried to make Jimmie's #48 car my first car, but obviously didn't have enough money.

Do you have to buy them from a brand's dealership, I.E. Johnson's car is in the Chevy dealer?

Nope. It's upwards to 16-20 cars, some drivers are doubled. I'll be Jeff Gordon and I'll pass another Jeff Gordon car.

Then I will pass two Dale Earnhardt Jr. cars for the lead. Highly unrealistic. Jr. never leads, let alone CLONES!!!
