Default Mike Wells: Lance might go to D-League this season...

Not sure i'd seen this anywhere, but just in case:

MikeWellsNBA Pacers president Larry Bird said they may send Lance Stephenson down to the D-League later this season.

I'd love to be able to see him play some at this point....

It'd make me interested in the Mad Ants for the first time in their entire existence. I suspect I'm not alone on this, either.

Bigger news would be why he isn't already there and why there's any question or debate of him going there?
Nuntius was right. I was wrong. Frank Vogel has retained his job.

I bet he'd kill the D league, only thing I'd be worried about is he keeps or picks up bad basketball habits. Is D league a run and gun, no defense league? If so, I'm not sure bad experience is good.

    good idea.

Lance needs time, and I think if he's in the D-League when his court issues come around in Febuary, it won't be a PR hit if the Pacers keep playing well..

He already has "Best player ever from New York" and he can add "Best player ever on the Mad Ants"... Quite a resume

Some teams play good defense, some teams don't. It's like the NBA. I haven't watched the Mad Ants enough this season to know how are they doing.

This season there were already 3 lottery picks assigned to the D-League. And Johnny Flynn too. For guys who need to develop their skill-set, it's a good idea.

As a "humbling experience" I don't think it works. That's the wrong way of seeing the D-League.

I'm fine with keeping George here, but Lance needs some time in the D League.
Welcome to Pacers Digest! New around here? Here are three tips for making the forum a great place to talk about Pacers basketball.

    • Log in. Even if you want to read instead of post, it's helpful because it lets you:
    • Change your signature options. You can hide all signatures by choosing "Settings" (top right) then "General Settings" (middle left) and unchecking the box "Show Signatures" (in the "Thread Display Options" area).
    • Create an ignore list. I know it may seem unneighborly. But you're here to talk about the Pacers, not argue with someone who's just looking for an argument. Most of the regular users on here make use (at least occasionally) of the "Ignore" feature. Just go to "Settings" -> "Edit Ignore List" and add the names.

    Enjoy your time at PD!

Lance is either 4th PG or 7th wing. Don't think it'd hurt the Pacers and it might help him to work on his fundamentals, particularly on the defensive end.

I think George needs D-League time as well. Bring them up and send them down a couple of times this season. That lets them get some practice with the regulars and gets them some court time to put into play what they have learned in practice.

I just figured they were waiting for his legal troubles to resolve themselves one way or the other before allowing him to play for the Pacers or any affiliated team.

Would be kinda nice if we had our own affiliate and set it up like the Spurs have with the Austin Toros. They run the same defensive and offensive systems as the big club, at least they did when Quin Snyder was there the last few seasons, not sure about now.

Far as Lance MAYBE going LATER in the season, I'll believe it when I see it. I assume he'd be with the Pacers until at least his court date to keep an eye on him (obviously doesn't need new charges), then depending on what happens there he may go down. I guess I don't really know enough about the kid personally to say one way or the other if he'd be "humbled" or if he puts up some 30 point nights and gets an even bigger head. I'd be lying if I said it didn't make me feel a bit uneasy to have him anywhere but right under the Pacers thumb though.

Ive only watched two D-league games this yr and it isnt much different than the NBA minus the talent level. There are some really good defenders. It really isnt that much run in gun but i was watching the maine team. They play thur there 2 big men so other teams probly play different. Most of these guys are 25 or older who are trying to get a break in the NBA so they play there hearts out on both end of the floor.

Though it seems like past seasons have shown the Pacers have a pretty small thumb.
You know how hippos are made out to be sweet and silly, like big cows, but are actually extremely dangerous and can kill you with stunning brutality? The Pacers are the NBA's hippos....Matt Moore CBS Sports....

I think it's good for him to go there just to play.

We're not gonna have any room in the rotation for him this season.

I agree, lets let him play in the d-league until his legal issues are resolved. Then if he is good enough bring him back to compete with AJ for the back up if TJ gets traded. As of this moment though i want TJ as the primary backup he has done a tremendous job this year. Keep up the good work TJ. GO #5
