    Default 2011 Prospect Scouting Thread

Here's some 2nd round guys I like: Austin Freeman, LaceDarius Dunn, and especially Demetri McCamey. I do, however, expect McCamey to move up on boards.

Austin Freeman is just a scorer. He has a smooth shot, uses his wide body to get shots up over the rim, and he's aggressive. Downside is that he is undersized, doesn't have a good first step or attacking ability, and he's not a very good defender. I do think that he can be at least respecable in terms of defense.

LaceDarius Dunn worries me. He seems immature, and he doesn't like to drive. He has a really nice shot and just a nice scorer, but his maturity worries me. He also has some kind of assault charges, so while I think he can be good, it's probably not worth the gamble.

I also think that Kenneth Faried has a chance to be pretty decent.

Demetri McCamey reminds me of and AJ Price honestly. However, his stock has to increase.

Since we don't have a real chance to get a top pick, the only guy at our spot that I like is Kemba Walker, just a nice player. However, since there is almost no one else that I am a fan of, I would have no problems at ALL trading our first round pick for an impact player to be quite honest.

    Who do you guys like?

I wouldn't have a problem taking a look at Vesely, Kemba Walker, or Jonas Valanciunas.

E'twann Moore at Purdue is a cold blooded assassin.
He would be a great pick in the 2nd.

Yeah, Kemba has been ridiculous this year.. which is probably going to skyrocket his status unfortunately.

Lace Dunn is my guy to get, though the Pacers don't need a SG unfortunately.

Need to look at 20-28th guys that can play center, at least as of right now.

PF guys to follow are the Morris boys at Kansas.

I'd rather move Price into the backup PG than to draft another one, at least for now. Definitely need a big on the bench.

BTW, I don't bother with serious scouting till Jan 10-15th. I will try to look for the "hard to find" guys on small schools when possible, but for guys at the big programs I like to let them get into serious ball before following them.

I'll start working up video then too.

I love Kemba, he actually reminds me of DC. (Extremely friendly kid, too)

He's been shooting the ball better than I have dreamed he could, not sure if it'll stick though. But I think his shot has significantly improved.

This Uconn team is young, but their Bball IQ in total, is much better than any I've seen in years..probably since the Okafor led Uconn team (and even then..) Price and Craig Austrie were as much babysitters for the idiots as they were team leaders during their playing years, but this Uconn team actually knows what the heck they should be doing, and that allows Kemba to just play and help them win, isntead of directing the freshman where to go at all times.

Kemba's issue is he is extremely tiny. He's smaller than DC, I think. (He's not 6'0...) And he is much more of a scorer than a playmaker, so those are issues he'll have to get over at the pro level..but really, he's been amazing..if he keeps this up he'll have a better season at Uconn than Taurasi did her Junior year, and I didn't think any Uconn player would ever have a season like Taurasi did..

But anyway, back off..I'm gonna selfishly hope he stays another season. And in all seriousness, the Pacers don't need him. He is pretty much a little DC, and we have two good young PGs, having three is just selfish. :P

Also this yri dont feel as if we know who will be the #1 pick almost every yr there isnt much debate. But this yr i 1-8 is almost interchangable. Just depends what the team needs i guess.

I would have no problems with trading this pick.. I know that this is cliche, but for real this time, this draft is weak after 1-10.

The second round may have some gems though.

It looks like that in this draft there wont be a big drop off from a pick n the 20-30 range compared to 40-50 . So i woulnt mind trading the pick ethier for the right player.

JuJuan Johnson killing it right now on ESPN.

All 9 points from JuJuan Johnson which one of them were a three.. however, he has had sloppy hands when rebounding ala Solo.

Is JuJuan Johnson a good or bad rebounder??

Right now he is just reminding me of a more athletic Solomon Jones.. which I suppose if Solo was playing out here he'd look more athletic too.

It is pretty easy to contest his shots.. but he still seems like a solid second round prospect.

I'm going to watch the Butler game and check out Shelvin Mack.

Chris Singleton looked impressive defensively last night, he's 6'8" and stole the ball being brought up the floor by a guard. averaging 3 blocks, 3 ssteals.

    Bump..

I watched CJ Leslie today and..... PASS. He's an athletic freak but his just lack of touch and skills screams disappointment to me. Guys that he's comparable to, like Anthony Randolph or JaVale McGee, at least have size to go with their athleticism. Guy is thin as a rail.. He is a good rebounder though, and I didn't get to see much of him.

Just looked up his profile a couple of days ago and I was looking to see him play, and I walked away as if I wasted my time. I'll watch him play a couple more times though as it could have very well been one of those games where nothing can go right.

Has anyone watched anyone they've been impressed by??

P.S.- I would absolutely hate if we picked up Marcus Morris. Lacks so much size it's ridiculous. A thinner version of Jeff Adrien w/ a jumpshot IMO.

This guy might be under sized, but he can straight up ball.

Kenneth Faried - projected early 2nd.

    http://insider.espn.go.com/nba/draft...kenneth-faried

    Also, http://espn.go.com/blog/collegebaske...-dennis-rodman

I have a feeling by the time the Pacers pick, all the quality bigs will be off the board, unless anyone has any interest in Renardo Sidney...yeah, I didn't think so.
With the #3 pick in the 2015 draft, your Indiana Pacers!

Did anyone get a chance to see Kyrie Irving, pre injury? He sounds like a great player on paper.

give me jimmer fredette all day any day. it'd be such a shame to see a guy like steph curry go top 10 and watch jimmer slide to the 2nd round when they are identical players. curry might have a slightly better jumper while fredette might be slightly better at creating for himself and others. love that kid.

well here's a video of his 49 (23fga) point game vs arizona last year. also had a 45 (23fga) point game against tcu last year. i've yet to see a game of his where the opponent contained him whereas i watched butler contain and completely shut down curry in person. nearly identical players and yet jimmer is a late 1st-2nd round projected pick?
