Also remember the name Tyler Ulis kid is only 5'6" but he is just 14 so he still has time to grow, but he has to be one of the best PG prospects that I have saw this weekend.

Jody Demling of the Courier-Journal loves Derek Willis.

From Demling's tweets today at the May Classic:

...About to do wrap up of Saturday at adidas May Classic...first thought what a HUGE day for Purdue commit Derek Willis of Bullitt East...

...BA Hoyas 16s with a huge win over Eric Gordon. Bullitt East soph and Purdue commit Derek Willis was best player on the floor....

Also, nice article about Tyler Wideman, his unofficial visit (and schollie offer) Tuesday, and his play this weekend in the May Classic:

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – It was a day of very impressive performances at the Adidas May Classic, but one player stole the show. With all eyes on him, Derek Willis stepped up and proved to be one of the most skilled forwards in the 2013 class . . .

Nope, thinking about getting one soon though. Oh yeah another thing about Willis he hurt his back at the end of the 1st game, and had to sit out alot of the 2nd game even though his team was getting beat bad, in the 3rd playoff game he hit a couple of key 3's and it seemed like the ball moved through him alot of the time. Headed out today to watch some more games.

Oh yeah and Gary Harris' team was knocked out in the first round of the gold bracket.

Nice writeup today by Jody Demling of the Louisville Courier-Journal regarding Derek Willis:

    http://blogs.courier-journal.com/jod...ational-level/

Bullitt East High School sophomore Derek Willis had a breakout season with the Chargers, helping his team to the Sweet 16 semifinals.

But on Saturday, the 6-foot-9 Willis saw his game go to a national level.

In front of a bunch of national analysts and scouts, Willis put on a show at the adidas May Classic and helped his BA Hoyas 16s team beat the Eric Gordon All-Stars at the Indiana University practice facility.

The Purdue finished the game with 19 points, nine rebounds, six blocked shots and six assists in the win over the team led by Indiana commitments Devin Davis and Collin Hartman. He injured his back a bit late in the game but still played later in the day and helped the BA Hoyas to a 3-0 record in the event so far.

Willis didn't end up playing a lot today, His team lost in a rematch with Eric Gordons team by a last second shot. I watched the first have and a little of the 2nd, that whole time he didn't enter the game and his team was down by about 20 or so.

    more notes...

Indiana Elite the team with Ron Patterson, Jeremy Howell, Yogi Ferrell, and Hanner P. lost in the 2nd round of the tournament.

EG 17U team lost in the semi finals...to a team that featured JP Koyoto a UNC recruit (guy is amazing). I should add to that that Ronnie Johnson was cramping up before the game began and didn't really play the whole first half of the game.

Again Wideman shows nice range today, but seems like he lacks confidence and definitely needs to work on his low post game on both sides of the ball.

Zach Irvin showed up today, making a lot of key shots and open 3's, the thing that I notice about him is his shot approach and release, the process seems rather slow compared to a lot of players I have seen.

Also Basil Smotherman didn't play this weekend not sure the reasoning...

Any questions feel free to ask. lol

"Derek had his first opportunity to shine on a national stage and he didn’t disappoint," Scout.com national analyst Brian Snow said. "He is highly skilled for a kid who is every bit of 6 and effortlessly knocks in NBA threes. Add in an impressive handle and solid athleticism, and it is easy to see why Purdue jumped on him very early."

Several analysts in attendance suggested Willis is likely a top-50 prospect nationally when the new rankings come out after the summer evaluation period.

Willis said "nothing has changed," since his commitment to Purdue noting that he’s "just going to Purdue" and now has to work hard to keep improving.

Bullitt East coach Troy Barr said via text message that Willis told him following the game against Eric Gordon that he was invited to the Nike Elite 100 camp to be held June 9-12 in St. Louis. The camp is for elite players nationally.

    lol shut your mouth....

I actually don't think Blackmon or Blueitt will go to IU or Purdue, I see Blueitt going somewhere like KU, Duke, UNC type schools...

    But yeah u never know.

Sorry everyone.. for some reason I thought Wideman was a different player...

Here is my new assessment of him. I see why Painter offered him a scholarship he is a good legit big man. He has good post moves for a young guy as well as a good face up game. He can hit jump shots from 15ft, and is aggressive on D.

Please forgive my mistake... I was wondering why purdue offered a scholarship to this guy at first, I was thinking they might just project him as a good player eventually due to his shot and size. I am glad that I was thinking about the wrong kid.

Non-conference schedule released. Highlights are the Mackey rededication game to start the season against UNI, Purdue's 1st ever appearance in the Puerto Rico Tip-off Classic, and of course the inaugural Crossroads Classic @Conseco; Purdue will play Butler, and IU will play Notre Dame.

Just one real road game, but it'll be a toughie at Xavier.

Rivals released their 2013 rankings today. Looks really good for the Boilers. Three players in the top 50. Willis looks like a stud, and it's speculated that he might rise to 5-star status before it's all said and done.

Yup just saw that... I will say one thing about their rankings I don't think that Beachman is better than Davis for sure and maybe even Hartman...

    But we will see soon...

Buts as far as Purdue now all we need to do is get Thomas Hamilton... that would be nice...

One thing though, have to keep in mind this recruiting class is a long way away from being at Purdue...So much can happen during that time.

Hartman underachieves out there. I've watched him a few times and he just isn't assertive enough. He has the tools and size to be a top 30 player, but he hasn't put it together yet. He has a gorgeous shooting stroke though, regardless.

True, I noticed the same thing about him... just judging form this past weekend Beachman has a lot to work on, and yeah hartman definely needs to be come more assertive.. I wonder if the AAU team that he plays on is the cause for this...they have tons of talent

Tons of wings on that AAU team too, easy to get lost in the shuffle. Although he got lost in the shuffle at Cathedral this past season too. They almost froze him out of the offense at times.

Beachem never impressed me that much, I'm really surprised by his lofty ranking. He seems like a 80-100 ranked player to me, but that's probably why I'm not the expert

Hartman is definitely the better of the two wings we're getting in 2013 if he ever gets his head together.

I'm not even sure about that.. Davis can score in so many ways, dude is agile, long explosive.

Hartman is key though due to his accuracy and range but Davis really shows up more though I feel, even if hartman gets his head together.

McGary's jump in this class is eerily similar to the power forward out of Chicago who is attending UK this fall, I think his name is Anthony Davis. I can't believe ESPN has him at #4, that is too high right now IMO.
