Jaquan Lyle, a 2014 recruit from Evansville (I believe) recently had a campus visit. Apparently Barlow was his host. Not exactly sure how I feel about that.

Anyway, with the current offer to Ronnie Johnson, and continued pursuit of a number of 2012 guys I'm starting to feel like Kyle Molock may decommit. I have NO info that hints towards that, just a feeling I have.
Yeah I was wondering that about Kyle also, seems like a okay kid... hope Purdue doesn't pull his scholarship like the football team did to that kid from FLA... but yeah we have been lively in the 2012 recruiting.

PT. Last year there was all the talk about how much work he put in, but he still lost time to Carroll. Yeah, there'll certainly be more time to be had with JuJuan gone, but there'll be more competition with Hale and Lawson. Maybe it's just wishful thinking, but I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if he transferred.
Bade is interesting... still wondering why he hasn't developed, I mean he was never the athletic type... but I man as far as positioning on rebounds, picks, and scoring down low he just seems to not have gotten the concepts or something, idk... I could see Anthony Johnson transferring next year depending on how much PT he gets, but you never know... I would really like to see how his game fits though seems like he has a bunch of upside.

I don't either, I'm just saying if he did it'd be a much different feeling than if it were Bade or Hart. They just wouldn't be able to cut it at this level. Barlow'd have blown it.

The pulling off the scholly to the FL WR wasn't because of an ACL like it got reported. I can't remember the specifics right now but if you google around I'm sure you can find a report on it.

ok thanks, yeah the last I heard was that the procedure that was used in his surgery is a questionable one and often the patients end up re-tearing it.

Thanks though I may go check it out.

They offered him a greyshirt too. It sounds pretty bad though.

So IU has 16 scholarships taken up in 2012, that doesn't make sense, how can they keep getting these verbals from these guys when they don't have the space...?

    http://mbd.scout.com/mb.aspx?s=170&f=2353&t=2365589

Out of 5 freshman they should only be able to sign 2...?

With Ronnie Johnson still talking about going to Purdue am I missing something... is there some way to have this playout, will we have to make someone go to JUCO...

    http://blogs.indystar.com/recruiting...onnie-johnson/

And if there is a space left could that entice Gary Harris to sign with Purdue since IU is so heavily over there scholarship numbers?

IU still has 1 scholarship in the 2012 class safely tucked away if Harris decides to come to IU.

Thats what I am saying, how if they already have accounted for more than enough... just trying to figure out the logical answer when looking at their current scholarship grid...

NVM someone just filled me in...

"Guys that are scholarship now, will have to be walk-ons then. All NCAA scholarships are only one year and have to be renewed every year. Ppl assume they are 4 yrs, but they're not"

This means Purdue could still get Alex Foster and Aj Hammons if they want, Macuis and Bade will just be without scholarships, or Molock depending on what happens.

Bring on Gary Harris while we are at it too...

No, that's not how it works with IU. Every so often teams are allowed to sign one over their class.

But that is 3 over their class, with Harris that will be 4 get what I'm saying... If it is not that way, then IU might be in some big trouble deciding who to keep out of the 5

    Notebook: Heritage Christian coach resigns
    By Kyle Neddenriep
    kyle.neddenriep@indystar.com

Basil Smotherman resigned after two seasons as boys basketball coach at Heritage Christian. Smotherman, a longtime assistant at North Central, was 24-21 with the Eagles. His teams lost both seasons in the Class 2A sectional to Park Tudor.

"It was a family decision," Smotherman said. "It was something I felt like I needed to do. I do want to coach again."

Smotherman is the department chairman of the visual arts program at North Central, where he has been a teacher for 23 years.

His son, Purdue recruit Basil Smotherman Jr., led the Eagles with a 13.8 scoring average as a sophomore.

"He's a student at Heritage Christian and will finish out the school year there," Smotherman Sr. said of his son.

Before his hiring at Heritage Christian, Smotherman Sr. was an assistant for 19 years at North Central, the last 16 of those under current coach Doug Mitchell.

Heritage Christian athletic director Jeff Freeman said he "was not entirely expecting" Smotherman's resignation.

I have heard about this a lot. Does it mean any thing? Or is it just because he is our recruit's father?

I don't know if it means anything. It's being spun that Smotherman Jr. is transferring to Lawrence North, or to North Central, but I would have no idea.

It is interesting that Smotherman Sr. is currently and has been a teacher at North Central for the past 23 years, despite being the head coach at Heritage Christian. I did not know that.

Huh? I thought you had to be an academic staff member at a high school to coach the basketball or football teams in Indiana.

There are exceptions, but you have to get permission from the IHSAA.

Billy Keller actually coached Muncie Central for a season, after Bill Harrell died.

Also, you can be a "full-time" substitute teacher. There was a coach at a school in my county that did that, but it was only for a year until a position opened up.

Sounds like nothing is guaranteed, and your going to have to work hard... I am pretty sure that if this is the case they tell them when they sign the LOI... but yeah I mean I guess it all depends...

Question really came up when looking at IU's situation... I doubt purdue would be that bold to do it though.

Ronnie Johnson's deciding between Purdue and Illinois tomorrow. Be pretty shocked if it's not Purdue. That means a 2012 scholarship has to come from somewhere pretty sure.

I would be shocked as well. It's also sounding more and more like Marcius will be leaving.

I think that's what Tom Crean is doing at Indiana

    I don't like that practice.
