1st year Purdue basketball assistant Mike Jackson resigns.

    http://purdue.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1211376

Jackson had been suspended since February 9, after being arrested on suspicion of operating a vehicle while intoxicated and endangering a person; he pleaded guilty to the OWI charge and was sentenced March 25 to probation.

The rumors persist that Dane Fife and Micah Shrewsbury (Butler assistant) will be joining the Purdue coaching staff next week.

I find that hard to believe. Fife recently interviewed for Bradley and Kent State, and is currently in the running for Eastern Michigan. Unless he desperately wants to succeed Lusk at Missouri State, doesn't make much sense.

I must say, it would be pretty funny, considering he turned Crean down a year ago. And he'd probably get paid more at Purdue. But I don't see it happening.
For what it's worth, I don't think Crean ever offered him the position. Once the Colorado fallout came clear, he moved in quickly on Steve McClain.

Heard on Dakich that Fife's taking a job with Izzo. If you're going to take an assistant job, makes a lot more sense to do it at a top 10 program.

If Howard doesn't get the IUPUI job, I wonder if he'd be open to FW.

[edit] Nevermind. IUPUI finally hired Howard (took long enough) and FW promoted an assistant.

This Willis kid sounds a bit like Jon Leur from Wisconsin. I'd take that.

Gotta say, Smotherman, Scott, Stephens, and now Willis is a helluva 4 man class.

Does make you curious about the guys he's still chasing like Ronnie Johnson and Gary Harris. I know a verbal's just that, doesn't mean a ton especially from kids so young, but there's literally no open slots until 2014 now. Plus there's rumors that we're on the list Brandon Wood from Valpo's considering for a transfer.

Guess there's still the Barlow situation to sort out and always potential transfers.

Next year may be a bit rough, probably struggle to 20 wins, but the future's lookin bright. Talk about a turn around from the Mizzou rumors.

Here's some footage, didn't catch Willis' number but he's the tall dark-haired kid in red. He already reminds me of JJ -- he needs to put on weight.

I really hope that we can get Alex Foster though that would be a big add in a position of need, as well as AJ Hammons in 2012... but I have a feeling that is a stretch.

Not likely, as we are out of scholarships for a few years at the moment.

    About Willis:

The No. 1 thing he has is the ability to create mismatches. He needs to develop his inside game, but we're talking about a kid who is 15, wears a size 18 shoe and has a 7-1 wingspan. The amazing thing is that he really hasn't had that one growth spurt yet.

I know Alex Foster was high on us, this probably is a disappointment to him, just that the option isn't there anymore.

Also it will be interesting to see what happens to barlow...

    Any information on that situation?

    Thanks guys

Jaquan Lyle, a 2014 recruit from Evansville (I believe) recently had a campus visit. Apparently Barlow was his host. Not exactly sure how I feel about that.

Anyway, with the current offer to Ronnie Johnson, and continued pursuit of a number of 2012 guys I'm starting to feel like Kyle Molock may decommit. I have NO info that hints towards that, just a feeling I have.

I get the same feeling too. Obviously Painter wants to cover his bases just in case, but the recruitment of the 2012 guys seems too active for that. I can't think of anybody who would transfer. I know a lot of people would like to see Bade transfer, but why would he want to?

PT. Last year there was all the talk about how much work he put in, but he still lost time to Carroll. Yeah, there'll certainly be more time to be had with JuJuan gone, but there'll be more competition with Hale and Lawson. Maybe it's just wishful thinking, but I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if he transferred.

A lot of Hart's tweets recently have seemed like he's kinda trying to make a big decision. Even with E'Twaun's departure, Smith stepped up HUGE and Anthony Johnson's coming off his redshirt. No reason to think he should get more burn. It was a pretty big surprise Painter offered him in the first place.

If any of these kids do decide to leave, best wishes to them. Except Barlow, if he's gone it's of his own doing.
