Purdue pummels Iowa as Smith goes off again. Ryne hit 6 out of his first 7 attempts from 3-point range and leads the team in scoring again. Purdue's defense harasses Iowa all day as the Hawkeyes shoot 38% from the field.

Purdue is definitely taking care of business with the teams they should beat. The schedule gets tougher from here, and then gets brutal, but every B1G Ten team is going to have a brutal stretch.

good win, especially if we win without 33 or 25 doing much. Moore especially has not been shooting well.

I was wrong about Penn State. They looked awful. That can't make IU fans feel good about things.

Thursday at the Barn in Minnesota will not be easy. Nor will Sunday at West Virginia. They will get a bit of a breather at home against Penn State before they end the season with an absolute beast of a schedule.

    Michigan State on Jan. 22
at Ohio State on Jan. 25
    Minnesota on Jan. 29
    at Wisconsin on Feb. 1
    IU on Feb 8
    at Illinois on Feb 13
    Wisconsin on Feb. 16
    Ohio State on Feb. 19
    at IU on Feb. 23
at Michigan State on Feb. 26
    Illinois on Mar. 1
    at Iowa on Mar. 5

Other than the two IU games (which won't be easy, anyway, due to the rivalry nature of Purdue/IU) and the final game at Iowa, every game is going to be a struggle. I think it is important to maintain position for at least a 2 seed in the tournament. To do that, they probably can't lose more than 4 of those games. It's going to be tough.

They didn't look too bad against Michigan State.

Minnesota's best player just got arrested and sent to jail last night.

No idea if he will play Thursday or not, but it has to be a bit of a distraction either way. By the way, this Mbakwe guy sounds like a real stand-up guy.

From what I'm hearing, Mbakwe and his former girlfriend had mutual restraining orders against each other; he heard she was having a bad time and sent a Facebook message basically asking if she was OK. Fairly innocuous, but technically a violation of the law. It will be a game changer if he doesn't play, as he's a rebounding beast and probably their best player. Coincidentally, he used to play for Tom Crean at Marquette before transferring to Minnesota.

Either way, the Boilers are going into an environment they haven't experienced this year, with the possible exception of the Virginia Tech game. I can't really remember what the crowd was like for that game, but Purdue managed to escape in OT with the win. The Boilermakers' first two Big Ten roads games were not representative of typical Big Ten road games. The Michigan game started at 2 PM on a Tuesday afternoon with the students gone, and the crowd (if it can be called that) at the Penn State game was just dead. Williams Arena will be intense. It will be interesting to see how the team responds, especially Ryne Smith.

I hope Hummel doesn't make the trip. Every time he has torn his ACL Minnesota has been around.

It has more to do with the schedule than anything else. We hadn't played anybody until this week. They weren't going to go undefeated. There will be more losses to come, just gotta roll with the punches.

How were they involved the second time?

I know it just sucks to lose the games consecutively. They are definitely the toughest games we have played. I'm sure we will be back soon.

They technically weren't, but they were playing us in West Lafayette.

    In football.

Whenever there's a non-conference game I wonder which conference the officials are from.

That said, we didn't play good enough to win. It's good experience for us, that crowd seemed to get really loud at the end. And a non-conference loss doesn't mean much. Still trying to figure out why their students rushed the court when they won the Big East and went to the Final Four last year, though.

Looking at the schedule, hard to believe Wednesday's game against a team that just beat MSU and Illinois is going to be our easiest game until March. Whew. Bring on the pain.

Rushing the court has been totally cheapened.

I pretty much gave up all hope after I stood in the student section helpless as people around me rushed the court after beating ****ing Minnesota a year or two ago.

    So embarrassing.

It's true. On almost any given night, you can count on somebody storming the court. It is ridiculous.

I saw it twice yesterday. West Virginia after beating Purdue, and Wright State after beating a very inconsistent Butler team. At least Wright State/Butler was a conference game, but still, save it for the big one.

Unless you are an unranked team beating the number 1 team in the nation, storming the court should be off-limits.

My beloved Nittany Lions almost pulled it off, so similar to the game against OSU.

That was an absolutely amazing game to be at. Mackey was so loud for most of the second half and almost all the last five minutes or so. Then after JJ's shot and the steal it was just crazy! Best game I have ever been to.

I'm super hyped about these next 2 games right now. If Purdue wins those, they should get mad respect around the country. I'm also curious how many losses MSU needs to get knocked out of the top 25. And would Purdue be afforded that many losses and still remain in the top 25.

I'm getting **** face and rowdy next tuesday.

Pulling out that win against PSU was huge. If we had lost that one, it very likely would have been the beginning of the end.

Looking forward to ESPN's College Gameday in West Lala on Saturday. Should be a great atmosphere.

It would have been devastating to lose a third straight close game like that.

When we were getting to brass tacks, I thought, "Well, we lost three games in January last year." At least we played a lot better in these than back then.

I think we should be prepared for a lot more close games and a lot more losses. As Painter said, Penn State is a tournament caliber team. So is Northwestern and the five ranked teams besides ourselves. Gonna be a damn tough slog, but at least it'll make for good basketball.

I'm prepared, but I'm hoping for a lot more close games and just a couple of losses, but we'll see. I am glad we're through with Penn State, at least until the BTT.

IU playing tough at Wisconsin, 7 point lead with 30 seconds left in the 1st half.
