That's stretch from that article, but I will admit it doesn't look good.
Yeah, that's basically the same article I linked a couple of hours ago.

Didn't what's his face from Duke do this to go play QB at syracuse?
Greg Paulus? I think so, but I'm not sure that it matters if you are transferring to play a different sport.

from Mike DeArmond of the Kansas City Star

    http://campuscorner.kansascity.com/n...#ixzz1I6PyLsKh

I just spoke with an AAU basketball official who has been told Matt Painter plans on returning from his vacation in Florida to West Lafayette, Ind., by 8 p.m. Wednesday.

That indicates to me that we likely will not know of Painter's decision to stay at Purdue or head for Missouri by the supposed noon "deadline" today.

All along the assumption has been Painter would first inform his staff and players at Purdue of his decision. And they, according to this AAU source, are still in the dark.

That official reasons that if no decision has been announced by that point he believes that implies Missouri will soon be hearing good news.

I can see the logic in that. If Painter has decided to stay at Purdue, or at any point if he decides to stay at Purdue, all he has to do is pick up the telephone and tell Purdue officials that. And if that happens, and I’m a Purdue official, I then issue the quickest statement possible.

Put it on Twitter, Facebook, chat boards and text it to every sportswriter in Indiana and Missouri.

That tells me that Painter is doing exactly what we have said he was doing: thinking long and hard, giving full consideration to Missouri’s offer and to what Purdue has said it will do.

    Two things.

Reports out of St. Louis that Painter returned to West Lafayette on Tuesday were erroneous. The source of that report has admitted as much this morning.

The deadline Missouri athletic director Mike Alden supposedly gave Painter of noon today, was as we said here earlier, is merely a request.

If noon comes and Painter needs more time to make the decision, to travel back home and to meet with his staff and the Purdue players, you can bet that Missouri will immediately agree to that.

This process looks to be heading into the final turn. But the finish line is still out there, waiting to be crossed.

I feel like by now, if Purdue was going to pull out all the stops to make it happen, they would have done so and announced to put this all to bed. The fact they haven't makes me believe Mizzou is going to get a pretty damn good hire all things considered.

At some point, Purdue has to lay their best offer out there and hope, and IMO you'd think they would have already done that.

There have been reports that they have.

If Painter does leave for Missouri, is there a precedent for this? A guy coaching at his alma mater, enjoying very high levels of success, leaving for a lateral job at best? If it happens, that does not speak well for the Purdue athletic program. Really, it already doesn't.

Maybe, but at the end of the article it says this:

Other sources close to the Mizzou hiring process told the Post-Dispatch's Vahe Gregorian that they haven't heard from Painter yet but expect to hear more this afternoon.

Yeah thats what we have been saying... the schools programs, not only basketball will be affected by this.. it would have been so much if this stuff would have had some way of being kept in house... this is no ones fault but Purdues... So disappointed in my alma mater right now...

Wow, here's a good rumor - not only is Painter leaving, but he's taking all of his assistants with him.

This is making me sick. And I can't for the life of me, think of who might be the next coach. You think Lavin would come from St. Johns?

Why wouldn't he? Isn't part of his beef that they aren't being paid well either?

From everything I'm seeing and hearing, it's a done deal. Painter has to have made up his mind by now, and if it was Purdue, we would know. All that's left is for him to talk to the team, and that won't be until tonight.

Bummer. This has been such an ugly process, what kind of coach can we hope to attract?

I like Shaka Smart, but I need to see more then just a cinderella run in the tourney.

Well do Painter's recruits follow him? Does Hummel try to leave? This could be a disaster.

Was the attraction of playing at Purdue, playing for Purdue or was it playing for Painter?

Helllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllo minus the o no lol, he is starting up a wonderful program at his current school and has alot of connections up in that area. I am assuming that our next coach will be from a small conference somewhere, no one spectacular. Too many internal problems to entice any good potential coaches.

HAHA maybe we can get Lawrance Frank... if you can dream so can I...lol

    Maybe Vogel lol

I like him a lot in all his interviews, but who's to say he would wanna leave and come to Purdue.

I can't decide if Purdue is an attractive job or not. Maybe the attraction is that it s a Big 10 job

Word is that NC State is putting a full court press on Shaka once VCU is out of the tournament. You can bet they are going to be more willing to fork over the cash to lure him than Purdue will be as well.

It's an attractive job, but this Painter situation will stop and give any guy pause. If there are real issues within your athletic department (and it really looks like there are right now), then you will be hard pressed to get any of the big names out there.

Considering the argument over IU being a presitgious/relevant program in the IU thread just recently, it's going to be fascinating to sit and watch a Purdue coaching search if it comes to that.

The word back in the day was Keady wanted Lavin to replace him, and Burke said no. Of course if this comes to pass, Burke may well be out on his ***, but the Lavin train has left the station regardless.
