Latest word is now that there will a one-hour TV special tomorrow at noon where Painter will reveal his decision.
LOL...I hope this is a joke.

It was a joke, but the way this thing is going, you never know . . .

Now it's being said by GBI (Gold and Black Illustrated) that they were wrong, and Painter flew back to Florida last night, not West Lafayette.

Well a disappointing end to the season, just got a lot more disappointing if this turns out to be true.

The only way we don't have to settle for less is if we could somehow convince Brad Stevens to leave Butler, and I don't think that's happening.

Yeah I don't think there's any way Stevens can be pried away from Butler. For one thing, (unlike Painter) I'm sure Stevens has a hefty buyout clause.

To me that would still be settling for less... I want Painter he is a Purdue Guy. Like Brad but I saw painter as our coach for many many years, a coach that would want to stay there and not jet for a better offer (if things were right financially and personally with the athletic department), I could see stevens taking a coaching job at one of the top basketball gigs in time.

Stevens will only leave Butler for IU, and even then I think it is a huge stretch to expect that to happen any time soon.

One last thing, I think Painter respects his players a lot, I think that he would atleast meet with them before taking a job somewhere else... He is back in FLA now from what I hear, I doubt that he had time to talk to them last night when he was here, that was more of talking to Purdue big wigs to see what could be done.

Atleast thats what I am hoping

This really sucks for Robbie Hummel if it happens. Kid can't catch a break.

The latest updates: Gene Keady was apparently reacting to the St. Louis Dispatch report, and not stating that Painter was gone.

Jeff Rabjohns of the Star is reporting that Painter hasn't called Mizzou or Purdue.

An interesting side note to that is that if Hummel graduates this May (as he is on course to do) supposedly he can go to Mizzou (or wherever) for grad school and play his final year without having to sit out.

I don't know if that scenario is accurate per NCAA rules, but it's being floated on the Purdue boards as if it is.

Keaton Grant has tweeted that he "wouldn't be surprised" if Painter left.

    http://twitter.com/kgrant5

You have to wonder how long this has been festering. I'm also wondering if Painter told Cuonzo Martin that he was leaving, but advised Martin not to go to Purdue.

Don't cost nuthin', but you do have to register to view the posts. You can also probably see the same stuff at purdue.rivals.com but I stay away from there because there's such a high ratio of jerks.

Seth Davis tweets on the conflicting reports between Bernie Miklasz of the St. Louis Post Dispatch and Jeff Rabjohns of the IndyStar:

    http://twitter.com/sethdavishoops

Bernie Miklasz of the St. Louis Post Dispatch has reported that Matt Painter called Missouri AD Mike Alden to accept his offer.
    10 minutes ago via TweetDeck

On the other hand, this from the Indy Star. RT @JeffRabjohns: Purdue has not heard anything yet from Matt Painter, source said.
    1 minute ago via TweetDeck
What it sounds like to me is that Painter has called Mizzou and accepted, but is staying quiet until he can go back and tell the team in person. Sheer speculation on my part though.

That's stretch from that article, but I will admit it doesn't look good.

And Dab I think that Hummel scenario is accurate. I think someone has done that before. Would Robbie do that? Is he more loyal to Painter or Purdue?

That situation only pertains if the school he's transferring to has a graduate program that his current school does not offer.
