Johnson and Moore played really bad and no body played defense. But give credit to VCU they couldnt miss today it was just there day so no.

I cant belive im saying this but Moore got lite up on defense we missed Kelsey Barlow
Johnson played poorly? I disagree completely.

Anyway, losing to VCU isn't in and of itself that bad. They are one of the strongest mid majors and always seem left out, however, by the same token, giving up 94 points to VCU is atrocious. They don't have that much offensive firepower, and to me that screams a team that was not focused and was not ready to play, and that falls on Painter IMO.

well $hoot, if this was olympic wrestling, we could still get that much anticipated matchup w/ nd and martin in the consolation bracket...
We'll still get the Hummel/Martin matchup in December at Conseco.

My sister was right about this thread. I just hope Painter gets the chance now to be in the studio, where all the great coaches are this time of year.

As for the game, it really defies explanation. The better team won, and did so convincingly. Barlow would have allowed us to do some different things, but we still would have lost.

The VCU/Florida State game should be interesting. Hamilton's got the best defensive team in the tournament, but I don't know if they can stop that buzzsaw. If they play like they have the last week, I don't know if anyone can.

Shaka Smart's gonna have his choice of jobs, and rightfully so. We've been fundamentally flawed all year, and he attacked our weaknesses with precision and gusto. Best coaching performance I've seen in quite a while. Just wish I could have enjoyed it.

Those games last night is why I still think the NCAA tournament is the premiere event in sports. Every single year we get to see multiple upsets, little teams going up against the big boys they have absolutely no business beating and winning. Don't get me wrong. While I'm not a fan of either Purdue or ND, I'm not happy they lost. I always root for Indiana teams in the tournament. This just goes to show you that rankings and RPI's mean absolutely nothing when it's win or go home. The only change I would ever make to the tournament is to allow even more teams in so you have the potential for even more and bigger upsets. People LOVE the underdog after all.

I think the wins last night just show that the gap between 2-12 seeds is basically non-existent at this point. Which is pretty cool IMO. Only a matter of time til a double digit seed takes the crown I think.

I told Kegboy this thread was going to be full of a bunch of IU making fun of Purdue for getting blown out in the second round (or whatever they're calling it now) of the NCAA tournament. Can someone please remind we what IU as been doing the last week? Oh yeah that's it...nothing.

Next person who says something about IU's banners gets put on my ignore list...if you aren't already there.
I don't think we have been bad at all. I was asking questions, not gloating. But since you insist...we still have five banners in our rafters

You honestly think it would be any different if the situations were reversed? Yeah, like Purdue fans weren't snickering three years ago when IU's entire world came crumbling down..........

I know it would be the same way. Mackey came over and rubbed our face in an Iowa loss earlier this season (I forgot to repay the favor when Purdue lost to Iowa later). I wasn't really coming to gloat originally, I just wanted a Purdue fan's perspective on what happened. I know they tailed off at the end of the season, but that game was baffling. VCU was hitting everything, but most of them were open shots. I just don't get it. I hold Matt Painter in pretty high regard as a head coach and I'm more than a little surprised at the effort from Purdue last night.

Well, the only time I ever posted in the IU thread was to give my condolences about one of your injuries. But hey, if trolling in any way compensates for being the worst team in the league, feel free.

Nobody said you posted anything. Can't say the same thing about some of the other PU fans. When you have been to as many Final Fours as Purdue has, I guess you can get away with it though.

People who follow Purdue closely, do you see any merit in the Painter to Missouri rumors?

I hadn't heard this, so I went googling.

    http://www.stltoday.com/sports/colle...237a67bf4.html

The writer makes some persuasive, detailed points towards what I originally deemed a ridiculous premise. However, I can't help but feel if there's anything to this, it's just Matt looking for a raise. Yes, I'm sure Missouri's facilities were better, but that was 4 years ago. Since then Purdue has undertaken a massive renovation of Mackey and the surrounding facilities, plans that I would think met with the coach's approval. And while St. Louis has as far as I know never been a hot bed for basketball recruiting, if it were I don't see any reason why he couldn't recruit it from here, and still be closer to the real hot bed of Chicago.

Missouri may spend marginally more on basketball, but I can guarantee it's way less than Kansas and Texas. Missouri has always gotten Kansas's leftovers, and I don't see that changing, whomever takes the job. I'm sure Purdue isn't the be all end all for Matt, but a lateral move to a worse situation doesn't make much sense, unless there's real trouble behind the scenes.

That said, it's a quality job, which makes me think it's a reach to think Cuonzo has a realistic shot. There aren't many openings this year, and I'll bet they can get somebody with a better resume, if not the local appeal.

Missouri is basically the Purdue of the Big 12 in a lot of ways IMO when it comes to basketball, (that's not an insult), I don't see why Painter would make that move when he has an established recruiting base here. Just wouldn't seem logical to me, it's completely lateral at best, and a couple steps down right now at worst.

It's a negotiating ploy to get a raise. That's it. I wouldn't be shocked if Painter left Purdue someday for greener pastures, but I don't consider Missouri to really be greener pastures.

Congrats to Cuonzo! He has a challenge ahead of him, as he will most likely have to work under sanctions. I'm sure Cuonzo's "clean" reputation is one of the reasons he was hired.

What a surreal last couple of weeks for the Purdue program. They were cruising along, and then apparently pulled a Costanza after the whipping of Michigan State on the road.

I don't know what to say about the Painter-Mizzou rumors. They say when there's smoke, there's a fire, and right now there's a lot of smoke.

Washburn from the JC says that Martin and Painter have the same agent, and if Matt were going to Missouri, no way Cuonzo would have taken this job. Makes a lot of sense.

    Painter to meet with Mizzou

    . . . according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch

    http://www.stltoday.com/sports/colle...7a4a78c22.html

By VAHE GREGORIAN | Posted: Monday, March 28, 2011 9:50 am

Purdue coach Matt Painter will meet with Mizzou soon to gauge the school's commitment to the basketball program, sources told the Post-Dispatch today.

A resolution to the Painter situation will likely be Wednesday. One source said it was better than a 50 percent chance that Painter would accept an offer.

The Tigers are looking for a replacement to Mike Anderson, who left last week to take the Arkansas job.

Before Anderson left, the school had offered a contract extension and raise for Anderson for seven years at about $2 million per year.

Those numbers are more than Painter currently makes at Purdue and would make the Missouri job attractive to him, although he has strong ties to Purdue.

No way Cuonzo would have taken the Tennessee job? Why not?
