This has been coming for a while. As bad as this loss may look on paper, I'd rather have it now then next week or the week after.

Definitely. Coach Painter was on the Dan Dakich show last week, and he said winning makes a team soft. Now is the perfect time to get toughened up for the stretch run.

Another positive of the loss is that I'm finally able to change my avatar. Purdue hadn't lost since I changed it to Tom Pritchard, and I was hoping I'd keep Pritch until next year, but alas . . .

Wow, can't believe Leuer made the coach's team over Battle. But, I guess it's indicative of the Big Three, Little Eight this year has surprisingly been.

Looks like we got a 3 seed against...the St. Peter's Peacocks?

I think this was about as good of a draw as we could have hoped for. In Chicago, with Notre Dame as the 2 seed. I like our chances to get to the Elite Eight.

Yeah strong draw for Purdue. You can't argue that at all. St. Peter's could be a 16 seed.

Question for Boiler fans: How good do you guys think you will be without Moore and Johnson next year, knowing that Hummel's health is a complete wildcard? What are your expectations? I'm interested.

I think they should be one of the 4 best teams in the Big Ten. Every team is losing good players. This senior class is stacked. Ohio State should again be the class of the league. But after them, I think Purdue, Wisconsin, and Michigan State round out the top 4 in some order. I suppose Michigan could jump into that group also. I expect Purdue should be a tournament team in the 5-8 seed range. Losing two great players from a team is tough. But the cupboard is not completely bare. Hummel's health is certainly a wildcard. If he is healthy he's a Big Ten POY candidate. I think Lewis Jackson could be a first team All-Big Ten caliber PG. DJ Byrd and Kelsey Barlow should be solid players. Terone Johnson looks capable of making a major jump to being a reliable scorer. Obviously their bigs are questionable and I don't follow recruiting so I don't know who they have coming in but they need big bodies. While they will not be as talented as this year or last, they will still be solid. They are extremely well coached. They will have a veteran tournament tested group who knows how to win. Having those two things is critical in college basketball. So while I expect a drop, I don't expect a huge slide. And with the way the program is being run, I don't know that we will see a big drop for many years.

It looks like BWD summed it up pretty well.

We won't be nearly as good without those guys. You just don't lose two of the best players in the nation and bounce back like nothing happened.

I still think we will easily be in the top half of the Big Ten and be a tournament team.

I know we have Donnie Hale, Anthony Johnson, and of course Hummel coming next year. Oh and Jacob Lawson I believe. We have some decent size for next year.

Could not agree more. Notre Dame likes to slow it down and dribble pass around the perimeter. Purdue has some of the best perimeter defense in the country. They can make nd play a different game and take them out of there element

Also I think louisville will beat kansas

    I hope you are right.

Kansas is a pretty brutal matchup for Purdue. I just can't see anyway Purdue beats Kansas. Granted, Kansas is a pretty brutal matchup for everyone not named Ohio State.

I think Kansas is one of the two best teams in the county with a pretty big step to the third best team. (Unless Kyrie Irving comes back and can actually contribute then Duke is right there with those two and maybe even better.)

If Irving comes back and is healthy, it's Duke's tournament to lose.

    If he's 100%, probably.

But I'm assuming if he comes back he's at best 80%. And I still think Ohio State beats Duke with an 80% Irving. They matchup well with Duke. With Craft and Lighty, Ohio State has two of the best perimeter defenders in the country. And Duke's relatively weak interior shouldn't be able to do much against Sullinger.

Agreed. I'm not a big fan of the Morris brothers, but it reminds me of '98 when we played Stanford. The Collins twins just beat the **** out of us. The Morris's aren't nearly as tough as they were, but we just don't have the size to compete.

A lot of games before then, though. I'm optimistic, but we still need to take care of business.

Barlow's been suspended for the tournament. "Conduct detrimental".

I'd like to think we can still get through the first weekend, but this really hurts us against ND.

I am so disappointed in Kelsey. I really hoped he had his act together. I never thought he would get in trouble, but he obviously didn't always use his head. I hope it is nothing major.

Well, if nothing else, this is gonna be good practice for Terone. We already need him to step up big time next year, might as well get used to the pressure.
